The 20 Greatest Doctor Who Companions of All Time

Romana

This companion is unique because she is a Time Lady. This gives her the ability to regenerate, which she did twice. The vast differences between her regenerations led to them often being called Romana I and Romana II. She has also had appearances in numerous Doctor Who spin-offs. She served as the companion for the Fourth Doctor during the original series. In her first incarnation, she is arrogant and haughty. She even considers the Doctor an academic inferior. This is a direct contrast to Romana II, who may have even had a slight romance with the Fourth Doctor. Of course, it is worth mentioning that Tom Baker and Lalla Ward had a romance during the filming of parts of the show, and were even married for some time in 1981. Either way, her and the Doctor have definite chemistry on-set — and she even pulls sciencey things off more easily or efficiently than him sometimes.
