The 20 Greatest Doctor Who Companions of All Time

Captain Jack Harkness was featured in the 2005 series, with guest appearances in the 2007 and 2008 series of Doctor Who. He also played a central role in the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. He is a time traveler and con man from the 51st century. He adventured throughout the 2005 series with the Ninth Doctor and his companion, Rose. Though he died during the finale, he was resurrected and turned immortal. Stranded on 19th-century Earth, he joins Torchwood — a British organization that fights alien threats. Eventually Jack does reunite with the Doctor — albeit in his Tenth form, rather than the Ninth. This was mostly due to the unprecedented fan response to this character. As the first openly bisexual character in Doctor Who, Jack broke down a lot of barriers in the sci-fi community.
