The Nickelodeon teen sitcom Sam and Cat was an instant hit after it premiered in 2023. Dan Schneider, who has worked successfully with the network, created the show as a spin-off of his other sitcoms, iCarly and Victorious. However, Sam and Cat was ultimately canceled a month after it was reportedly renewed for production of season 2.
Sam and Cat originally aired from June 8, 2013, to July 17, 2014, with 35 episodes broadcasted on the network. The show follows two friends who meet by chance and become roommates. To earn extra money, they decide to run a babysitting business. With the show ending a decade ago, here’s what the Sam and Cat cast have been up to in their lives and careers.
Jennette McCurdy as Sam Puckett
Jennette McCurdy played the titular character Sam Puckett in Sam and Cat. Sam was the laziest of the two friends, with a tomboyish personality. Sam loved to play pranks and had a reputation for being aggressive. Sam meets Cat after saving her from an accident with a garbage truck. They become friends, and despite joining the babysitting business together, she’s more laid-back and lets Sam do most of the work.
After Sam and Cat was canceled in 2014, Jennette McCurdy starred in several short films and a few voice roles. She played one of the lead characters in the 2016 psychological thriller Pet and 2018 coming-of-age comedy Little Bitches. This has been the last movie role for over half a decade. Besides a few guest-starring roles on television, she led the main cast in the Canadian science fiction drama series Between from 2015 to 2016. Between is credited as Jennette McCurdy’s credit on television.
However, she has had an active career as a writer and executive producer. After her writing debut in 2014, What’s Next for Sarah? comedy TV series, she’s credited as a writer for a TV movie, three short films, two videos for her audiobook (published in 2022), and a podcast series, Hard Feelings with Jennette McCurdy, in 2023. Jennette McCurdy is also credited as producer and executive producer for the productions.
Ariana Grande as Cat Valentine
Known for her ditziness, Cat Valentine is the ever-happy, naive, sweet friend of Sam Puckett. Cat complimented Sam’s tough, tomboyish nature on Sam and Cat. Singer, songwriter, and actress Ariana Grande played Cat and went on to become one of her generation’s most successful artists. Together with her musical career, Ariana Grande made several appearances as herself and in acting roles.
She played Riley Bina in the 2021 Don’t Look Up movie and has two upcoming movies, Wicked: Part One (2024) and Wicked: Part Two (2025), in which she portrays Glinda, the main character in L. Frank Baum’s Oz novels. Since the show ended in April 2014, Ariana Grande has released six studio albums. Eternal Sunshine is her latest album, released on March 8, 2024.
Cameron Ocasio as Diceneo “Dice” J. Corleone
Dice was Sam and Cat’s ever-reliable neighbor. His cool and friendly demeanor makes him an easily likable person. Actor and model Cameron Ocasio played Dice in all 35 episodes of Sam and Cat. Unlike the other two primary actors, Ocasio has had the least success in his career so far. Besides two feature films, Love Magical (2018) and Project Pay Day (2021), his other movie credits have been from short films. While his last movie credit was in 2021, Cameron Ocasio last starred in a TV project in 2016, in the pilot of Commando Crash.
Maree Cheatham as Nona
Veteran soap opera actress Maree Cheatham played Cat Valentine’s grandmother, Nona. Cat lived with her before meeting Sam. With her love of being around friends her age, Nona moved into Elderly Acres. Maree Cheatham has always had a more active television career than in movies. However, she has managed to rake up credits on the big screen. Her last movie appearance was in 2018, where she played Mrs. Kakanian in Anyone Home?
On television, she appeared as a guest, in a recurring role, and as a series regular in several other TV shows. She played Bettie Breeland on Hart of Dixie until 2015 and Maggie in Baskets (2016–2019). Cheatham guest-starred as Dorothy in a 2019 episode (“A Parasol and a Hell of an Arm”) of Young Sheldon. Her last television appearance was as Pearl in The Haves and the Have Nots, which she played from 2016 to 2021. If you remember the Sam and Cat cast, check out Home Alone Cast and Where Are They Now.
