Moana 2 is coming to OTT! Much like its predecessor, Moana, the sequel didn’t disappoint with its record-breaking performance at the box office since its release on November 27, 2024. In fact, the film outgrossed its predecessor by raking in an impressive $1.05 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the third-highest-grossing movie of 2024.
On February 25, 2025, Variety reported that Moana 2 would be dropping on Disney+ on March 12, 2025. The film, directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, reunites Moana and Maui three years after the events of the first film. The duo set off on a new voyage to the far seas of Oceania for a gripping adventure. The project also marked the directorial debut of the showrunner trio. Disney roped in Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear to compose the music for the film, replacing Lin-Manuel Miranda, who had composed the original score for Moana.
Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reprised their voice acting roles as Moana and Maui, respectively. The cast of Moana 2 also included Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, David Fane, Hualālai Chung, and Rose Matafeo. While Moana 2 received a satisfactory audience score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, the critics’ score was just above average, riding at 61%.
Disney Recently Greenlit ‘Descendants 5’

Speaking of sequels, Disney greenlit another film in one of its most hyped film franchises! On February 25, 2025, Variety reported that Descendants 5 is in the works at Disney Branded Television. The film will pick up right after the events of the previous film, Descendants: The Rise of Red, which was released in 2024.
The currently untitled fifth film will explore what “happily ever after” really looks like for Red and Chloe after they return from their time-traveling adventures. Kylie Cantrall will reprise her role as Princess Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Malia Baker will reprise her role as Princess Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella. The new film is set in present-day Wonderland. Descendants 5 is directed by Kimmy Gatewood, with a script penned by co-executive producers Tamara Chestna, Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer.
Descendants 5 will incorporate a bunch of characters from Alice in Wonderland. The cast includes Liamani Segura as Red’s sister, Pink, Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, and Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook. Leonardo Nam will also be returning as Maddox Hatter. Although the film has no official release date, it is expected to be launched on both Disney Channel and Disney+.
Moana 2 will be available to stream on Disney+ from March 12, 2025. In the meantime, you can stream the first film, Moana, on the same platform.
