Stallone Comes Up Against New Competition in Tulsa King Season 2 Teaser

2022 saw Sylvester Stallone take his first dive into television with Taylor Sheridan‘s gangster series, Tulsa King. The series was met with critical praise and was then quickly green lit for a second season. Filming is still underway for the second season, however, fans have been treated to an early teaser trailer that packs a punch.

The second season will see Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi face a multitude of challenges as he continues in his attempts to take over Tulsa. New faces have been added to the mix, and the action looks to have been ramped up massively. So, here’s everything we know so far as the first trailer drops.

Where Did Tulsa King Season 1 Leave Us?

Tulsa King Season 1

Tulsa King season 1 saw Sylvester Stallone take the lead role as Dwight Manfredi, a New York Mafia capo who returns home after a 25-year prison sentence only to be exiled by his crew to Tulsa, Oklahoma. To that, he quickly gets to work, attempting to tap into unmanned territory. In the process, he builds a crew of unlikely criminals. However, they soon realise that the area isn’t as untapped as it initially seemed, and they square off with a ruthless biker gang.

On top of this, Dwight has a one-night-stand with an ATF agent, Stacy Beale (Andrea Savage). As their relationship blossoms, Stacy lands herself in hot water and loses her job. When Dwight successfully takes down the biker gang, he transfers money from their account to Stacy’s. Yet, this kind gesture lands him right back in jail. In the final episode, Dwight is hauled off to prison, leaving behind his crew and a broken-hearted daughter who he has only just fixed his relationship with.

Breaking Down the Trailer for Season 2

Based on the fast-paced teaser trailer, it appears Dwight doesn’t stay confined to the prison bars for too long. Before seemingly being released on bail, he swiftly knocks out a thug in the holding cell, telling the guard “he’s taking a nap.” With that, the humour that the show quickly became renowned for is very much still present. However, it’s clear that things will get darker as the season goes on.

Dwight boldly states “Tulsa belongs to me now,” whilst also acknowledging that there are people who want a piece of his business. From here, some fresh new faces are added to the equation. Neal McDonough (Walking Tall, Minority Report) is seen engaging in a tense stare off with Dwight. McDonough will play Cal Thresher, a powerful and extremely territorial businessman. And he’s not the only person Dwight has to contend with. Frank Grillo (Warrior, The Grey) is also briefly seen in the trailer, cocking back and pointing a shotgun at someone. Grillo will play Bill Bevilaqua, a Kansas City mobster who also has intentions of taking over Tulsa.

As well as this, after departing his crew and taking one of their men in the finale of season 1, the teaser trailer shows Dwight at a sit down with his old associates. He then says: “I don’t answer to any man.”, and his former associate Chickie (Domenick Lombardozzi) pulls out his gun. So, it certainly seems like Tulsa King season 2 will up the ante when it returns to the small screen this fall. In addition to the exciting first trailer, Stallone has been posting regular behind the scenes updates on his official Instagram page.

When Will the Second Season Be Released?

Sylvester Stallone in Tulsa King Season 2

The second season of Tulsa King has had a rough start, with Terence Winter first resigning as showrunner following some alleged conflicts with producer Taylor Sheridan. However, in the end, Winter chose to rejoin the series as its primary writer, with Craig Zisk taking over the season as showrunner. There has also been substantial controversy around the show as extras claimed they were treated badly on set during the first season, with Stallone allegedly calling some of them “fat” and “ugly”, as reported by The Los Angeles Times.

Despite these setbacks, Tulsa King season 2 will premiere on Sunday September 15, 2024 on Paramount+. The season will consist of 10 episodes, which will roll out weekly. Until then, here’s our pick of the 5 best TV shows that depict the Mafia.
