The Movie is A New Book
Anyone who knows anything about The Hunger Games knows it’s a trilogy. The book series hit it big before the movies were made, and the movies made a lot of sense. This dystopian drama is so much to unpack. The Capitol. President Snow. The killing of innocent lives on national television for a little bit of fame and fortune and sheer entertainment for those who have so much while so many others have so little. Districts. The lack of anything basic. The horror of being picked as tribute. There are so many things to unpack in this trilogy as it is, but now we have a new story.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a new book. It was released in 2020. It didn’t have quite the same effect as the original three books, but diehard fans were excited to learn a bit more about the game and what they mean. You see, these are dark games, and we know how they ended – but how did they begin? This is the story of how it all began. You won’t see many familiar faces because it’s happening years before the people from the trilogy are where they are. Some aren’t even born – Katniss and Peeta and their friends. This new book is one you should read prior to the movie.

The Setting
To make things a bit clearer for fans, this is a book that’s set a long time before the Games as we know them. The Hunger Games prequel movie takes place 64 years before Katniss volunteers as a tribute to her sister. It takes place 64 years prior to Katniss changing the games forever. It begins before the 10th annual games. We will see a young President Snow as he is long before he is the President we now know. He might be the only real character from the Games as we were first introduced to them, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself a fan of Snow before he becomes a political nightmare.
What is the Movie About?
If you are hoping that this movie will give you some more gruesome deaths and another story of survival and change like Katniss, you might be disappointed. This is not a story of triumph. This is, rather, a story of a young man who was from a wealthy family and was nearing poverty. He has to do something to bring the Snow name back to wealth, prestige, and power, and he will do anything. He will use what he has to make the most of what he is working with, and he will focus not on other people but on using and exploiting other people to further his game. It’s the story of President Snow and how the games came to be what they are.
What is important to remember with The Hunger Games prequel movie is that the games are in the tenth year, and Panem has not yet dealt with the dangerous ruling of President Snow. It’s going to – that will come – but not in this movie. This movie is the story of how Snow decided to change his own future. That, of course, entails changing an entire nation’s future. Nothing about this is going to be like the three books written before but taking place after it. it’s the story of a madman who uses, abuses, exploits, kills, and does anything for power.

Essentially, it’s a political thriller in which the winner isn’t what you want. Watching this and knowing how the future plays out does not make it any easier. However, with a cast like Viola Davis and crew, it will be stellar. The movie comes out a week before Thanksgiving 2023, which means we have a little more than a year to wait – and trust us when we say we are eagerly awaiting this release.
