Lane Davies has an acting career spanning over four decades. He is known for his sardonic performances and has appeared in productions on the big and small screens. However, unlike his impressive soap opera successes, many of Lane Davies’ movies are B-rated.
Also, unlike a few of his other soap opera co-stars, Lane Davies has had an active career, appearing in many other TV shows. Besides his onscreen credits, the American actor is also known to have worked extensively in theater. With his return to General Hospital in 2024, here are 6 interesting facts about Lane Davies you probably didn’t know.
Lane Davies Was Born In Georgia
The actor was born Lane Hunt Davies in Dalton, Georgia, on July 31, 1951. Davies grew up in a family of six, with his parents, Bill Davies and Emily Davies, having four children. To this end, he long chose to have a professional acting career.
He Attended Middle Tennessee State University
Unsurprisingly, he chose a degree in speech and theater to help sharpen his talent and acting skills. Davies attended and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with cum laude honors. MTSU is a public university in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, known to have produced several notable personalities and entertainers. Its alumni boast entertainers, including Sondra Locke, Colton Dixon (American Idol S11), Chris Young, and rapper Lecrae.
Lane Davies’ First Soap Opera Was Days of Our Lives
Lane Davies joined the cast of NBC/Peacock’s Days of Our Lives in June 1981. Davies, who was a month shy before he turned 30, was cast as Ewan Whyland. Davies originated the character and was the only actor to have played the character. Ewan Whyland marked Davies’ first work in soap opera television. Davies last appeared as the character in the episode aired on September 22, 1982, after the Ewan Whyland character died during surgery.
He Left Santa Barbara Because Of A Conflict With A Co-Star
While television generally exists in a make-believe world, sometimes actors struggle behind the scenes with crew members and/or co-stars. Davies was cast as Mason Capwell on the NBC soap opera Santa Barbara. He also originated the role, making his debut in July 1984. The character was generally known for and regarded as the black sheep of the wealthy Capwell family, with patriarch Channing “C.C.” Capwell Sr. and Pamela Pepperidge.
However, during his time on the show, Lane Davies had constant conflicts with co-star Nancy Lee Grahn about the storyline direction of their characters. Nancy Lee Grahn was cast as Julia Wainwright Capwell, Davies’ character’s wife. Lane Davies exited the show in July 1989 and was replaced by Terry Lester and later Gordon Thomson.
After leaving Santa Barbara, Davies reportedly took a six-month break from acting to travel around the world. After returning to the United States in February 1990, while many believed he would return to play Mason, a character that was arguably his breakthrough role, Davies never stepped foot in any Santa Barbara production again. The show ended three years later, on January 15, 1993.

The character is introduced in General Hospital’s storyline after Alexis Davis goes to a homeless shelter to find a therapist for Luke Spencer. She meets and convinces Dr. Lewis to take Luke as a patient. Interestingly, Nancy Lee Grahn was (still is) the actress portraying lawyer Alexis Davis. Over a decade after their behind-the-scenes conflict, Davies and Grahn reportedly reconciled on General Hospital’s set and became close friends.
Davies’ Dr. Cameron Lewis’ character is killed off after being struck in the head by falling debris during the Port Charles Hotel fire. Lane Davies last appeared as Dr. Lewis on February 12, 2004.
