Joe Jonas Unveils Deeply Personal Solo Album After Sophie Turner Split

Joe Jonas is stepping into the spotlight once again with his first solo album in 13 years. The 34-year-old singer-songwriter and actor announced that his new single, Work It Out, will be released on July 19, with a full album to follow later this year. This album is described by Jonas as “the most personal music I’ve ever put out.”

The announcement comes at a significant time for Jonas, who recently went through a public divorce from actress Sophie Turner. The couple, who married in 2019, announced their split last September. Jonas has been vocal about his desire for “shared parental responsibilities” for their two daughters, Willa, 3, and Delphine, 2.

Joe Jonas’ Personal Connection to New Music

Jonas revealed in an appearance on Jake Shane‘s Therapuss podcast that Work It Out was initially written for a Jonas Brothers album. However, he felt a deeper connection to the track, prompting him to seek his brothers’ blessing to pursue a solo project. He stated:

“I asked my brothers’ blessings. I was like, hey, I wanna go work on … I don’t want to call it solo, but I want to go do something on my own.”

His brothers, Nick and Kevin Jonas, were supportive. With Nick booking a movie and Kevin working on another season of Claim To Fame, Joe found a window of time to focus on his solo work. He described locking himself away to work on the album, which features collaborations with artists like Alexander 23, Josette Maskin from MUNA, and Jason Evigan.

Overcoming Personal and Professional Challenges

The new music arrives less than a year after Jonas’ separation from Sophie Turner. In a joint statement, the couple announced they had “mutually decided to amicably end” their marriage after four years. Jonas addressed fans directly during a Jonas Brothers concert at Dodger Stadium, emphasizing, “If you don’t hear it from these lips, don’t believe it. OK?”

Turner, too, has been open about the difficult aftermath of their divorce. In May, she spoke about feeling shamed and experiencing intense “mom guilt” after being labeled a “partier” and a bad mother. She shared her struggles, saying she “didn’t know if she would make it” through the challenging times.

Jonas’ creative process for this album has been both “exciting and emotional.” In an Instagram post, he expressed his gratitude for collaborating with some of his favorite musicians and creators. He wrote:

“I hope you find as much happiness and peace as I do when you listen to these songs.”

The album will feature contributions from notable artists such as Tommy English and Paris Carney. Jonas first hinted at new music in March 2024 with a TikTok video set to Madison Beer‘s Make You Mine. In June, Kevin Jonas hinted at Joe’s solo project, telling USA TODAY, “There will be Jonas Brothers stuff, but I think Joe might be doing something.”

Fan Anticipation and Upcoming Music Releases

Fans eagerly await the release of Jonas’ new solo album, which follows his 2011 R&B record, Fast Life, that peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200. Although an exact release date has not been announced, Jonas has promised more singles before the album’s full release “later this year.” In a heartfelt Instagram post, Jonas shared his excitement and emotions about the new music.

“I’m humbled and grateful to collaborate with some of my favorite musicians and creators,” he wrote on Instagram, expressing his deep appreciation and excitement. This album marks a significant chapter in Jonas’ career, showcasing his growth and evolution as an artist and individual. With the unwavering support of his family and the eager anticipation of his fans, Jonas is ready to share his most personal work yet, promising an emotional and heartfelt musical experience.
