Season 4 of The Flash started up on October 10. A lot of people were curious about how the series would proceed following Barry’s imprisonment in the Speed Force, but as it turned out, that particular plot point was resolved in the premiere. Granted, no one was expecting The Flash to remove its lead character, but for this to have happened so soon seems like a waste of what could have been some rather interesting narrative opportunities. Still, whatever else that can be said about the premiere, it had its fair share of memorable moments and more.
Here are five of the top moments from the premiere of Season 4 of The Flash:
Peek-a-Booya
Sometimes, it is the simplest things that prove the most amusing, as shown by Cisco’s utterance of “Peek-a-booya!” when the team manages to catch Peek-a-Boo. With that said, while capturing the teleporter was an impressive accomplishment, it was somewhat undermined by the reveal that the team has a one-in-three catch rate when it comes to supervillains.
Iris Sleeping on the Couch
Iris choosing to sleep on the couch rather than the bed that she shared with Barry was a simple but nonetheless effective method for showing the extent of her emotional response to her loss. It serves as a neat encapsulation of her whole situation, which is further strengthened by the series showing how she is throwing herself into supporting the team as a way of avoiding having to think too much about what has happened.
Earthquake Sword
The main threat in the premiere comes in the form of a robot with more than a passing resemblance to a samurai, which possesses an earthquake-causing sword that it threatens to use on Central City unless Barry is presented to him. Suffice to say that this is more than a little bit ridiculous but nonetheless pretty cool, making it one in a long line of super weapons with special powers that can be traced all the way back into the dimmest depths of human pre-history.
Barry Closing in on the Robot
Getting Barry out of the Speedforce involved a fair amount of techno-babble as well as a sub-plot to restore him to a functional state of mind. However, the most spectacular moment might have been when he rushed upwards to confront the robot as it was threatening Iris, which actually saw him running up windmills in midair. Spectacular feats are to be expected from the Flash, but even now, they continue to impress.
The Reveal of the Thinker
At the end of the premiere, it revealed the Thinker, who will be serving as the main antagonist of Season 4. It turns out that he was the one who sent the robot in the first place, which suggests that he is as interested in technological marvels in The Flash as his counterpart is in the comic books. Although the premiere provided no more than a short look at the Thinker, it was nonetheless a good way to lay the foundations for his further appearances.
