Chicago Fire: Casey’s Political Victory and Stella’s Final Straw

Chicago Fire

After a brief break, Chicago Fire has made its much-anticipated return. This episode not only introduces us to the latest addition to Firehouse 51 but also reveals the outcome of Casey’s run for City Alderman. So, did the Truck Lieutenant manage to add ‘politician’ to his list of accomplishments?

Stella’s Breaking Point

First, let’s discuss Stella. She’s a fascinating character with a complicated personal life. Her ex-husband continues to rely on her financially, so she tries to help him get back on his feet. She arranges for him to perform at Herrmann’s daughter’s birthday party, but he fails to show up. Thankfully, this seems to be the last straw for Stella. It’s puzzling why such a strong, successful female firefighter would even consider giving this guy a second chance, let alone multiple opportunities.

A Haunting Discovery

Firehouse 51 is called to a residence with a carbon monoxide leak. Upon investigation, they find that the leak’s source is a blockage caused by a body stuffed in a chimney. Shockingly, it’s a baby, and Severide recognizes a nearby medal, leading him to believe it may be the body of a girl named Courtney. Severide was part of a search team that tried to find Courtney after she was presumed to have drowned in a lake, but her body was never recovered. Convinced that this is the same girl, he approaches Courtney’s mom for a DNA sample to confirm his suspicions. The results prove that it is indeed Courtney, and when Severide goes to inform her mother, he finds her in a heated argument with her brother. Courtney’s uncle inadvertently reveals that he knows her neck was snapped – a detail he could only know if he was the one who killed her. After a violent struggle, Severide subdues him, providing some closure for Courtney’s grieving mother.

Casey’s Political Rollercoaster

With the election just six days away, Dawson has the entire firehouse working tirelessly to support Casey’s campaign. His opponent, Becks, continues to attack, causing concern for the Fire Chief. Casey attempts to clarify that he would defer the funds he’d receive as alderman to the city, but he’s caught off guard by the announcement of a debate he wasn’t aware of. To make matters worse, Becks schedules the debate during Casey’s next shift. Having just assured the Chief that his political ambitions wouldn’t interfere with his firefighting duties, Casey decides to forfeit the debate. This move should spell the end of his political career, but a last-minute stroke of luck comes when he saves a man from being crushed by a car while on duty. His supporters see this heroic act as evidence that Casey genuinely cares about the people. Molly’s hosts an Election Night party, and Casey is determined to remain composed, regardless of the outcome. Fortunately, he doesn’t have to worry, as he emerges victorious in the election! As he asks Dawson, “Now what?”

Wouldn’t you love to be at Casey’s victory celebration? More importantly, how will Casey manage the day-to-day responsibilities of being both a firefighter and an alderman?
