Eric Falconer and Chris Romano’s Blue Mountain State is getting a sequel series with lead cast members of the original show. News of the revival draws excitement from fans, igniting a renewed interest in the cast of the sports comedy. The sitcom premiered on Spike TV on January 11, 2010, running for three seasons that concluded on November 30, 2011. After Spike (now Paramount Network) refused to greenlight a fourth season, the creators launched a Kickstarter campaign for a Blue Mountain State movie, which was eventually released in early 2016.
Building upon Season 3’s ending, the BMS movie and series captured a wider audience on Netflix and evolved into a beloved franchise with a devoted fanbase and enduring popularity. The football-themed series revolves around the Mountain Goats, the football team of a fictitious university — Blue Mountain State. It follows the lives of several college footballers, exploring storylines with themes ranging from hazing to sex and wild parties. Catch up with the cast of the series.
Darin Brooks As Alex Moran
Darin Brooks portrayed one of the series’ lead characters, Alex Moran, a Junior starting quarterback from Cheyenne, Wyoming. An acting captain of the Mountain Goats, the Blue Mountain State film follows the character in his senior year. After the series was canceled, Broke assumed a regular role as Wyatt Spencer in The Bold and the Beautiful. This was in 2013. He exited the CBS daytime drama in January 2024.
Alan Ritchson As Thad Castle

A linebacker and captain of the Mountain Goats, Alan Ritchson’s performance as Thad Castle cemented his stake as an actor after debuting with Smallville. The American actor from North Dakota has been busy since his time on the sports comedy. Notably, he’s played Arthur Bailey in Syfy’s Blood Drive (2017) and Hank Hall/Hawk in Titans (2018 – 2021). The Thad Castle actor has also played the title character in Prime Video’s Reacher since 2022. His recent movie roles include Jon Gunn’s Ordinary Angels and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Chris Romano As Sammy Cacciatore
The American actor, writer, and filmmaker starred in the series he co-created as Billy the Mountain Goat, the football team’s mascot. Blue Mountain State remains Romano’s foremost work as an actor. He continues to work in various capacities in the film industry. His latest acting role was in Wine Club, a 2023 comedy film directed by Eric D. Cohen and Matthew Hirschhorn. Before that, he had a voice role in Squanch Games’ High On Life (2022) and appeared as a reporter in Yesser Laham’s Landfill (2021).

Ed Marinaro is a former American football running back who spent most of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. After retiring from professional football in the late 70s, he turned to acting. Marinaro debuted as Packey Dietrich in Irving Vendig’s The Edge of Night and gained recognition with his performances in ABC’s Laverne & Shirley, NBC’s Hill Street Blues, and Sisters.
The former football player consolidated his growing Hollywood reputation as the head coach of the Mountain Goats. Since then, he has appeared in various projects but was last seen in 2021 as Horace in Stacia Crawford’s A Unicorn for Christmas. However, he’s active on his social media pages where he reminisces about his exploits in football and acting.
Kwasi Songui As Coach Jon Jo Hendrix
The Canadian actor portrayed the assistant coach of the Mountain Goats. Blue Mountain State remains Kwasi Songui’s most popular work but he has appeared in numerous small and big screen projects since then. This includes White House Down (2013), The Knockout Theory (2014-2015), The Moodys (2019-2021), and Beau Is Afraid (2023). He’s also voiced various characters in popular games like 2021’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Riders Republic, and Outriders. Most recently, Songui lent his voice to characters in 2023 video games such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage and The Outlast Trials.
Denise Richards As Debra Simon
As Coach Marty’s ex-wife and fan of the Mountain Goats, Denise Richards upped the sports comedy’s plot with supporting side stories that elevated the show’s overall appeal. The American actress began her career as a teenage model and gained global recognition as Carmen Ibanez in Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 sci-fi action film Starship Troopers. Some of her popular projects since Blue Mountain State include Twisted (2013-2014), The Bold and the Beautiful (2019-2022), Love Accidentally (2022), and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (2015-2024).
Frankie Shaw As Mary Jo Cacciatore
The American actress from Brookline, Massachusetts, joined the Blue Mountain State cast as a cheerleader during its second season. Frankie Shaw’s performance as an aspiring cheerleader with a drinking problem made her a fan favorite, paving the way for her to further penetrate the industry after coming to mainstream attention as the coffee girl on Katie Aselton’s The Freebie. While Shaw is still active, she hasn’t been seen in any production since 2021’s No Sudden Move. However, she’s billed to appear in Zach Strauss’ Palette among other upcoming projects.
