If you were growing up in the 1970’s the chances are good that you heard Carly Simon a time or two. She became quite famous in 70’s and has been known ever since for a few of her most popular hits that are featured prominently in many TV shows and movies throughout the breadth of pop culture. Her love for music came from her family who were also heavily entrenched in the music scene and likely encouraged her to let her voice be heard and keep the tradition alive. Carly’s done this herself with her two children who are also musicians.
5.Family Guy-You’re So Vain
If there’s something or someone in pop culture to be featured in some strange but humorous way it’s possible that Family Guy has done it at least once if not more often. The show creators have a penchant for grabbing hold of something and wringing it like a wet rag until they can get every last possible laugh from it and are certain that no one wants to see it any longer.
4. Sleepless in Seattle-In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning
This isn’t the only film in which Tom Hanks and Melanie Griffith fall in love. You’ve Got Mail was another movie that featured the two iconic actors had a very similar plot to it. During this era however the love story was a very big draw in Hollywood and it’s not a big surprise that they got Hanks and Griffith twice in what amounts to the same movie. It drew the audience in at least.
3. Working Girl-Let The River Run
This is the kind of movie you want to see if you feel underappreciated, undervalued, and overall just walked on at work. It’s the type of film that seems to at least showcase the downtrodden of the workplace and give them a well-defined voice that says it’s possible to reach further than your ambitions and make something of yourself if you’re willing to go further than you have before.
2. Karate Kid 2-Two Looking At One
Getting the Cobra Kai off of his back was one thing, but when Daniel feels the need to follow Mr. Miyagi to Okinawa to see his ailing father he’s pushed into a world where the fights are all too real and there’s no referee to call for a break. Upon realizing this Daniel’s only option is to fight in the only manner he knows how, even if it’s to the death.
1. Dick-You’re So Vain
Being that this is one of Carly Simon’s absolute best songs I felt the need to add in another clip that features it just to make that point felt. Dick was about the Watergate scandal and how it really happened. Of course it’s fictional, but it’s also pretty funny since it puts a rather goofy spin on the entire thing and shows Nixon as a bumbling fool that had no idea what was going on half the time.
Carly Simon was a great talent back in her day and her songs more than prove this.
