The Touching Story of How Gal Gadot was Cast as Wonder Woman

How touching the story is seems to be a bit of an overstatement but the belief that Zack Snyder had in Gal Godot is still impressive since the moment he took a picture of her the director had already decided that she was the Wonder Woman that the DC universe needed. This of course has been a popular choice throughout the the DC universe no matter that the movies she’s shown up in, apart from the actual Wonder Woman movie, have been ruthlessly panned by critics and fans. In sharing this post that he made about how Gadot could easily become a superhero on the big screen, Snyder seems to have won over a great many people that at some time in the past might have lambasted him over his choice of directing Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. If anyone can recall, there were only a few brights spots in either film, and Gal was one of the few.

A lot of times this seems to be how opinion goes when it comes to the movies however, the shift is as constant as the tides and is just as vicious at times when it comes to either praise or condemnation of an individual and what they produce on the big screen. Obviously Wonder Woman wasn’t given a lot of explanation in Batman vs. Superman, but in Justice League her side of the story was given a little more. In her own movie however there was a great deal of information about her, enough that it could have overwhelmed the movie if it hadn’t been for the undeniably intense action sequences that showed the prowess and overall strengths of the Amazons. That being said, Patty Jenkins took the Wonder Woman movie and made it one of the bright spots of the DCEU, finally breathing life back into the DC universe after it had been faltering so badly in trying to keep up with the MCU.

At this time the popularity of the DC universe is rising in film and TV, and with a second Wonder Woman film coming out eventually you can only imagine that it’s going to be even more of an intense back and forth battle since with the arrival of Aquaman and the continual emergence of new shows from the DC universe popping up on TV the DCEU is starting to fill out nicely and bring forth a lot of characters that might have sat in the shadows otherwise. It’s funny to think that DC could have easily been on top all this time if they’d handled some of their more prominent heroes with a lot more respect than they’ve been given throughout the years, Wonder Woman being one of them.

There have been those that have weighed on who should have assumed the role over and over with every from Megan Fox to Sandra Bullock seeming to be excited to play the Amazonian princess. But Snyder took one look at Gal and decided that she was the one that he wanted to go with and the one that would fit the role the best. And thankfully Jenkins didn’t say boo to this and came out with a movie not long after that honestly gave a lot of women reason to celebrate since Wonder Woman and the Amazons are undoubtedly strong women that have no need of men and in fact are stronger than most men around. Some men might have felt a bit emasculated by this, but honestly that’s their issue, no one else’s. If you feel emasculated by strong women then oh well, if you feel emasculated by a comic book hero, you might need therapy.

All in all though the thought that Snyder didn’t really need to see any other auditions and likely didn’t even want to at that point is a testament to how strong a character that Gal cuts when she’s on screen. If anyone recalls her time spend in the Fast and Furious franchise she was quite the eye-catching criminal that was ready to throw down without any hesitation. Yet she used her sex appeal to help out the group in one of the films and made it clear that while she’s beautiful she can also be strong, independent, and bad to the bone when need be. The only drawback for Gal being Wonder Woman seemed to be that she’s not the stereotypical, big-busted and well-muscled woman that we see in the comics. Okay, fair enough, but then again she fit the role so perfectly that adhering to the male fantasy was easy enough while not buying into the whole idea of what a perfect woman should look like. If you’ll notice in Wonder Woman every Amazon is in shape, but not all of them look like swimsuit models. If anything, most of them look like they could tear someone in two with one arm.

It was good choice all around.
