Twenty-nine years after three iconic witches charmed moviegoers with their magic in Hocus Pocus, a sequel has officially been confirmed to premiere on Disney+ on September 30, 2022. Titled Hocus Pocus 2, the sequel will see Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker reprise their roles and reinvent the story for Gen Z audiences. According to IMDb, the plot of the sequel will be as follows: “Three young women accidentally bring back the Sanderson Sisters to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world.”
Fans of the original movie are excited to see the sequel appear on Disney+ this year. Even Bette Midler expressed her excitement over reprising the role again for younger audiences. In an interview with Good Morning America, Midler said: “They sent the script, and we’re really excited about it — we’re up for it,” “Although I must say, I mean, the years have flown by, and I am 75, and I do believe I can fly.”

Bette Midler
Bette Midler will be donning her witch’s garb again and reprise her role as Winifred “Winnie” Sanderson in Hocus Pocus 2. Midler was fresh off her comedy-drama movie for the Boys when she starred in the first Hocus Pocus movie. Some of the iconic films Midler has appeared in after Hocus Pocus include The First Wives Club, The Stepford Wives, Parental Guidance, The Addams Family, and The Glorias. On TV, Midler appeared in eight episodes of the Netflix series The Politician. Before that, she also appeared on six episodes of The Voice as an adviser.
Kathy Najimy
Kathy Najimy will also be reprising her role as Mary Sanderson in Hocus Pocus 2. Outside of Hocus Pocus, Najimy’s most iconic role was as Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act and its sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Since then, Najimy has performed in movies such as Rat Race, WALL-E, Dumplin’, and Single All the Way. On TV, she voiced Sareena Second in The Rocketeer and currently voices Mayor in the Amy-Poehler-led adult animated series Duncanville.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker will appear as the youngest Sanderson Sister, Sarah Sanderson, in Hocus Pocus 2. The actress, which was recently named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2022, is best known for her starring role as Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO TV series Sex and the City, a character that she played as recently as 2021 when she reprised her role in the sequel And Just Like That… Outside of Sex and the City, she’s appeared in Lovelace, All Roads Lead to Rome, and Here and Now.
Doug Jones
Another actor reprising their role from the original Hocus Pocus is Doug Jones, who will be returning to the sequel as Billy Butcherson, a former lover of Winifred. Jones has cultivated a successful career in Hollywood, portraying non-human creatures in fantasy and science-fiction films like Mimic, Hellboy, and Pan’s Labyrinth. More recently, he embodied the Amphibian Man in the Oscar-winning film The Shape of Water. On TV, he portrayed Baron Afanas in What We Do in the Shadows and Captain Saru in Star Trek: Discovery.
Whitney Peak
A new face in the movie, Whitney Peak, will play Becca, a high school student and aspiring witch, in Hocus Pocus 2. Peak currently stars as Zoya Lott in Gossip Girl. Before that, she played Judith Blackwood in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Like the other new cast members of Hocus Pocus, Peak was born a decade after the first movie premiered.
Lilia Buckingham
Actress and influencer Lilia Buckingham will play Cassie, a popular classmate of Becca’s, in Hocus Pocus 2. Before joining the cast of Hocus Pocus 2, Buckingham has mainly appeared in short films like It Counts and Voices. She currently plays the role of Heather Masterson in Crown Lake and Autumn Miller in Zoe Valentine, both web series released by Brat TV.
Belissa Escobedo
Belissa Escobedo plays Izzy, Becca’s best friend, in Hocus Pocus 2. She’s previously appeared in American Horror Stories and Sex Appeal.
Hannah Waddingham
Hannah Waddingham will also be joining the cast of Hocus Pocus 2, playing a character only known as The Witch. Waddingham is best known for her role in the Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso, a role for which she also won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She’s also appeared in Game of Thrones, Sex Education, and Benidorm, in which she played a lead character.
Tony Hale
Tony Hale will be portraying Jefry Trask, the Mayor of Salem and the dad of Cassie, in Hocus Pocus 2. A sitcom mainstay, Hale portrayed Buster Bluth in the critically acclaimed series Arrested Development. He later played the sycophantic assistant Gary Walsh in Veep, a role that netted him two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. His recent credits include roles in movies such as Being the Ricardos, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Arlo the Alligator Boy. On TV, he stars in the adventure TV series The Mysterious Benedict Society.
Sam Richardson
Sam Richardson plays Gilbert, the owner of the Olde Salem Magic Shoppe that used to be the residence of the Sanderson Sisters, in the upcoming Hocus Pocus sequel. Like Tony Hale, Richardson also played a role in Veep as fan-favorite character Richard Splett. Like Waddinghamm, Richardson also appeared in Ted Lasso, albeit as a guest actor. His brief appearance led him to a nomination as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series at the Emmys. Aside from these projects, Richardson has also performed in The Afterparty and M.O.D.O.K.The Addams Family
