It’s been a few years since Netflix’s The Witcher came out, capitalizing on the popularity of the book series and the games produced by CD Projekt Red to deliver something that captivated millions of fans, and now Liam Hemsworth is gearing up for its fourth installment. Henry Cavill brought Geralt of Riveria to life on the small screen through his dominating physical performance as well as his acting range over 3 incredible seasons, but, now that he’s confirmed to be leaving the show, fans are looking toward the next actor, Liam Hemsworth, for some answers and slashings! Cavill’s departure came as a shock to many fans. He revealed in October 2022 that The Witcher Season 3 would be his last time appearing as Geralt, leading to a scramble to find the next best-suited actor for the show.
Hemsworth was announced as the next lead in the same press release, indicating that he was fully suited to stepping into the role. While Hemsworth’s role in The Hunger Games propelled him into stardom and serves as a base for him, it was his more recent work in Independence Day: Resurgence and then Isn’t It Romantic in 2019, which probably convinced the showrunners to audition him. Showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich mentioned that they were excited to see Liam’s take on Geralt’s character as they’ve seen him play the role and it brings a fresh dynamic to the series. Not to forget, his more recent works like the Australian thriller Poker Face and his impressive performance opposite Russel Crowe in Land of Bad, which also backs it!
Why Do Fans Think Liam Hemsworth is Not a Good Fit for The Witcher?
Unlike Cavill, who had already become synonymous with Superman and Theseus in Immortals, Hemsworth yet doesn’t have a strong lead role to convince audiences. In many ways, Cavill was the perfect man for the early growth of the series and is a tough act to follow. He approached the character of Geralt with great depth, owing to his love for the original Witcher books written by Andrzej Sapkowski which he’s known for being a huge fan of. Geralt is a character with a lot of depth and emotions, and his reactions and feelings are central to the story as there are few recurring characters and central players in the story.
An actor who doesn’t recognize this won’t be able to have as great of a performance as Cavill had in the first three seasons of the show. Not to forget the physicality required for the role, that at the time, Liam Hemsworth looked a bit chocolaty for. However, Hemsworth has proved his mettle in the acting field across his performances in The Hunger Games series, portraying Gale Hawthorne, a sensitive, battle-tested character who has had to fend for himself and grow under the rule of an oppressive regime. In more recent films like Independence Day: Resurgence and Arkansas, Hemsworth has shown his range as a bona fide leading man, too.
Liam Hemsworth Looks As Beefed Up As Thor 1’s Chris Hemsworth

Liam Hemsworth’s brother Chris Hemsworth, is known for his physicality and prowess, something and is known for playing Thor in several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Since a major part of playing a character like Geralt is being buff enough to sell all those superhuman feats on screen and also served as a major critique when Hemsworth was first involved in the role, it was only natural for the youngest Hemsworth to rise up to the occasion. Hemsworths have never shied away from sharing their physical progress on social media.
Liam Hemsworth was also quick to show fans why they’re wrong to worry about his upcoming role as Geralt. Although he has always shared selfies from the gym and some pictures as early as 2020 show him working out and focusing on getting in shape, a more recent post on his Instagram, where Liam Hemsworth is thanking fans for showering love on his recent action-thriller feature Land of Bad, shows him gaining a ton of muscle mass! So thankfully, he looks bigger than ever now! Now that he’s caught up to his elder brother, we’re even more confident about how good he’ll look wearing a Geralt costume on screen.
Breaking Out Of Typecast Roles Is Possible – Robert Pattinson Is an Example
Being typecast in Hollywood is nothing new — it’s been happening for decades and has happened to hundreds of actors. A more recent success story, is of Robert Pattinson, who played small roles in movies like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before finding his breakout role portraying Edward Cullens in The Twilight movie series, quickly getting typecast as a brooding, stoic vampire. Despite working in a plethora of new genres since then including The Lighthouse, Remember Me, and even Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, he was still more well-known as Edward Cullen.
By 2020, the young actor had already built one of the most impressive modern portfolios in Hollywood and ended up finding his lead spot in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which finally seems to have broken the curse. This is a prime example that proves that all you need to break out of being typecast is a good project to show off your acting range, and that’s what The Witcher Season 4 just may be for Liam Hemsworth. Expect to be surprised by the actor’s performance and physicality over the season when it finally releases sometime later next year. The exact release date for The Witcher Season 4, is not yet announced. Also check out these 8 things that you probably don’t know about Liam Hemsworth.
