There’s a lot more to Kamal Angelo Bolden than meets the eye. This talented actor has been in the business for more than 15 years, and he has put lots of time and effort into building a career that he can be proud of. His resume, which now includes nearly 30 acting credits, is made up of both TV and film roles. Many people will recognize Kamal for his role in shows like Rosewood and Chicago Fire. Kamal will also have a role in an upcoming series called 61st Street which is set to premiere on AMC in April of 2022. The show, which stars Courtney B. 1. He Is From Illinois
Kamal was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois and it’s a place that he will always be proud to call home. Unfortunately, not much is known about Kamal’s family or his upbringing. Although he has nothing but love for Peoria, it appears that he is currently based in New York City.
2. He Used to Work in Corporate America
Becoming an actor isn’t something that Kamal always envisioned for himself. At one point in his life, he was on a much more traditional path. In college, he majored in business administration-entrepreneurship and he spent several years working in corporate after graduating. Eventually, however, he decided that it was time for him to pursue something he was passionate about.
3. He Is An Alpha
Greek letter organizations have been a major part of the Black American community for more than a century. Kamal is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. He pledged during his time at Bradley University. The fraternity has several other noteworthy members including Omari Hardwick, Hill Harper, and Keenen Ivory Wayans.
4. He Is A Private Person
Being in the spotlight often means that privacy is hard to come by. So far, however, Kamal has done a great job of maintaining his peace. Outside of his career, there isn’t much known about his personal life. He doesn’t do many interviews and his social media posts are mostly focused on his work.
5. He Was In An Episode of Law and Order: SVU
Over the years, Kamal has gotten the chance to be part of some very successful projects. One of those credits includes an appearance in one of TV’s longest-running TV shows: Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Kamal was in an episode of the show in 2015 as a character named Jerome Jones.
6. He’s Been In Commercials
Every actor has to start somewhere, and for Kamal, that somewhere was commercials. While they may not be the most glamorous jobs out there, they are a great chance to gain experience. Kamal has been in commercials for several well-known brands including Walmart, KFC, and Volkswagen.
7. He Is Related to Sherrick McManus
In an Instagram post, Kamal revealed that professional football player Sherrick McManus is his cousin. Sherrick is also a Peoria native and he attended Northwestern University. He was drafted by the Houston Texans in 2010 and went on to play the majority of his career with the Chicago Bears.
8. He Has Theater Experience
On-screen work tends to pay the best and provide the most exposure, but the stage is where lots of actors hone their skills. Kamal is no exception. He has lots of theater experience including being cast in off-Broadway productions. Even though his TV career has really started to take off, he does his best to return to the stage whenever he gets the chance.
9. He Likes to Rap
Kamal is a storyteller at heart, and acting isn’t the only way he likes to do it. He is also a big music fan and he even likes to come up with songs of his own. Kamal enjoys freestyling and it’s a great way for him to express his creativity. That said, it doesn’t appear that he has ever had an interest in pursuing a music career.

When Kamal decided to quit his job to focus on acting, lots of people probably thought he was making a terrible decision. There were even times when he questioned himself. Once he started the audition process, Kamal had to deal with lots of obstacles including endless rejections. While there were probably times that he wanted to quit, Kamal always found ways to keep going. Fortunately, all of his hard work has really started to pay off.
