It feels like forever ago now that Marvel graced us with our first Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, in 2017, as we’ve been given two follow-up films with the web-slinger, played by Tom Holland, and a total of six MCU appearances with the character as well. However, even the first MCU Spider-man film was loaded with easter eggs that may surprise fans of Marvel, even today. Of those easter eggs, one of the most interesting comes from Jennifer Connelly, who had a last-minute, secret addition to the film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, that fans may be unaware of. Below, we’ve detailed Jennifer Connelly‘s surprisingly fitting MCU easter egg, some other details and easter eggs from the film, and other information about the actor.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

After a ridiculous amount of exchanges and meetings between Marvel and Sony and the appearance of Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War, an agreement was finally made to add Spider-Man to the MCU without issue or worry. Although Spider-Man was already established with audiences with his appearance in Captain America: Civil War, he was part of a more significant arc that didn’t see much happening for the character personally. So when the characters were given their own movie to focus on, fans were all aboard and ready for Spider-Man to be a leading hitter in the MCU. With such a fight to being such a popular character in an already colossal universe, Marvel, of course, included as many easter eggs as physically possible to continue to excite fans even after they’ve experienced the movie for the first time, and the Jennifer Connelly MCU Spider-Man: Homecoming easter egg was no different.

Jennifer Connelly

Most recently, Jennifer Connelly was in the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, in which she reprised her role as a love interest of Tom Cruise’s character and a series regular on TNT’s adaptation of Snowpiercer. However, the actress has a rather extensive career beyond her recent work. Some of Jennifer Connelly’s most impressive and recognizable works included Requiem for a Dream, Dark City, Little Children, Inkheart, 9, and other films and television works. Although it was before the MCU and, so far, hasn’t been considered canon to it, Jennifer Connelly was the love interest of Bruce Banner in 2003’s The Hulk. However, something about her personal life made the Jennifer Connelly MCU Spider-Man: Homecoming easter egg happen. Fans may have no idea she was even in the MCU film, much like Donald Glover’s somewhat secret role.

The Jennifer Connelly MCU Connection

As stated above, it was the personal life of Jennifer Connelly that inspired the easter egg that involved her in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since 2003, Jennifer Connelly has been married to Paul Bettany, one of the longest-standing actors in the MCU. Paul Bettany started in the MCU as the voice of Tony Stark’s AI voice Jarvis in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, and The Avengers in 2013. While Paul Bettany only had his voice included in the MCU for five years, he eventually was brought to life as Vision, where the actor made his first on-screen appearance in the MCU. From his first appearance as Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, he portrayed the character in more MCU films, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, before the character had his last performance to date as the character in the Disney+ series WandaVision. alongside Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, also known as The Scarlet Witch.

The Jennifer Connelly MCU Spider-Man: Homecoming Easter Egg

Finally, Jennifer Connelly has her MCU connection, in her personal life, with her real-life marriage to Vision actor Paul Bettany, Marvel, or more specifically, Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Paul Bettany played the original MCU AI voice, Jarvis, so for Tony Stark to build a female AI, voiced by Jennifer Connelly, to occupy Spider-Man’s suit couldn’t have been more fitting, as well as a genuinely hidden and mysterious easter egg that doesn’t just link to the MCU but beyond it, to its actors. Ultimately, we only got this voice of Jennifer Connelly for Spider-Man: Homecoming, the dedication to such an easter egg, and a callout to the longest-standing actor in the entire MCU, Paul Bettany, as Jarvis. While the Jennifer Connelly Spider-Man: Homecoming easter egg may not be something that fans would necessarily rewatch the movie to embrace the easter egg fully, it’s worth noting for the next watch to see how similar to Jarvis or at least reminiscent of Jarvis in earlier MCU films. Overall, while Spider-Man: Homecoming, the other MCU Spider-Man films, and literally every other Marvel project have had easter eggs, Spider-Man: Homecoming had more MCU easter eggs beyond Jennifer Connelly as well.
