Take the 15 minutes it requires to watch this Aliens-themed roller coaster in a Sim game and you’ll be thoroughly impressed with the amount of detail and accuracy that the creator put into it. I know I was, and I’m not a big fan of Sim games. I am a big fan of the Alien franchise and like a lot of people I tend to think that you can’t beat the first or the second. Everything after that just kind of flopped in one way or another. But this roller coaster built by Hin Nya is something just epic and too great for words. But I’ll give it a shot.
Hin kind of integrated Alien with Aliens because there are moments in the ride that you can clearly see are from the first movie, but that just makes it that much better. Plus Hin put in a few audio tracks from the second movie that make it even more worthwhile. Hudson’s comment, “We’re on an express elevator to hell, goin’ down!” is a classic that almost had to be in there if Hin was going to add the descent from the Sulaco to the surface of LV-426. Yes, I am a nerd for knowing about this, and yes, I am sincerely proud of it. I also applaud Hin for all the stuff that was put into this roller coaster since it sticks so close to the movie that you almost expect to hear Carter Burke’s voice when they’re making their descent and see the colony. Perhaps the omission of so many audio clips was a good decision though, as you kind of want to experience the ride, not so much the dialogue. For the movie it’s great, but for the ride it might detract from the experience.
The descent into the buildings however becomes the nightmarish version that it was in the movie, with the destruction and the chaos rampant throughout, at least until the ride begins to go deeper, into the lair of the xenomorphs. There it becomes a truly devilish place where strange cries can be heard in the distance and the walls crawl with the dead, the secretions of the creatures, and the strange, eerie feeling that something just isn’t right. In the movie it felt like there were eyes everywhere when the first cries could be heard, as though the very walls were watching. That’s ironic since the creatures have no visible eyes that would be used to make this assumption. But they ‘see’ all the same.
From that point it becomes a very dark and foreboding ride that eventually leads into the queen’s chambers, where the eggs lie in wait, curled inside their fleshy cocoons, just waiting to spring upon an unwary wanderer, or to be carried towards their intended destination. There’s so much that a person would need to read about to really understand the xenomorphs, from comics and novels and games, that it’s hard to bring it all to bear in a single ride or movie.
But my hat’s off to Hin Nya, this is just awesome.
