Ever since the MacGyver reboot started up in September of 2016, George Eads has been a beloved part of the show as Jack Dalton, who is the titular character’s partner in the field. Unfortunately, it seems that time has come to a close because it has been announced that Eads will be leaving the show. Story-wise, Jack Dalton is being written out of the show by being entrusted with an open-ended assignment to hunt down a dangerous terrorist who was thought to have been killed but has now been revealed to be alive. As a result, while the character won’t be returning to the show anytime soon, this means that he could make a comeback to it at some point in the future. Something that isn’t serving as much reassurance for upset fans in the present time.
Why Did George Eads Depart MacGyver?
Unfortunately, the whole kerfuffle is being fueled by the fact that the fans don’t seem to have a clear idea of why this has happened. As a result, it is no wonder that they are engaged in extensive speculation, which in turn, is fueling some of their fervor over the matter.
In short, there are some sources that are reporting that Eads is leaving MacGyver because it is taking up too much of his time. Since he wants to spend more time with his daughter, this means that he has chosen to free up that time by stopping his role with the show. However, there are other sources that are reporting that there might have been a falling out between Eads and other members of the cast and crew. Something that can be traced to a Hollywood Reporter article in which it was said that Eads stormed off of the set on one occasion even though there were still hours and hours of filming to go. Certainly, this wouldn’t be the first time that Eads has clashed with the members of the cast and crew on a show that he was involved in, which would explain why a lot of people have been flocking to this particular line of speculation.
Having said this, neither side involved in this matter have seen fit to comment much on the exact reason for Eads leaving the show. As a result, it seems probable that the fans will continue to be mired in speculation for some time to come.
How Are Fans Reacting to George Eads’s Departure from MacGyver?
As for how the fans are reacting, well, suffice to say that there is plenty of sound and fury. After all, while Eads didn’t play the lead character on MacGyver, he did play the partner, who happens to be one of the most popular characters on the show. As such, while his departure can’t be called a fatal blow to the show, it is nonetheless one that will be sorely felt for some time to come. Something that is already manifesting in the form of many, many angry fans giving vent to their feelings on social media and other platforms.
What Happens Now?
With that said, there is no real indication that the anger of the fans will be enough to change anything at this point in time. It is always difficult to gauge what the total viewership is thinking, but it would take an exceptional response for the choice to be reversed, particularly since it is unknown whether this is something coming from the Eads’s side or from the production’s side. For that matter, while there are plenty of people who are either expressing anger, dismay, or gratitude for the performances that Ead has given so far, a cursory glance doesn’t suggest enough of them to make such monumental changes.
Regardless, it will be interesting to see what happens from this point forward. Eads’s departure from the show isn’t something that is happening all of a sudden. As a result, there will be time for him to make a smooth departure. For that matter, considering the open-ended fate of the character, there will be plenty of ways to bring him back should that prove to be necessary in the future. Due to this, it does make sense for diehard fans of Eads’s character to speak out as much as possible so that their opinions will be heard as loudly as possible by the people who are responsible for making the decisions.
