When Is The Idea of You’s Release Date?
The film’s production was announced in December 2018, and filming took place in Atlanta, Savannah, and surrounding areas of Georgia in October 2022. The Idea of You is all set to release on May 2, 2024, exclusively on Prime Video. Ahead of its release, the movie was also the closing night film at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, on March 16, 2024.
Who Is in The Cast of The Idea of You?

What is the Plot of The Idea of You?
The Idea of You is the story of a 40-year-old single mother, Solène, who takes her teenage daughter Izzy to Coachella. Things get riveting when Hayes Campbell, the 24-year-old lead singer of her daughter’s favorite boy band, August Moon, takes an interest in Solène after a chance encounter in his trailer. What starts off as a secret rendezvous eventually leads the pair into a more romantic and meaningful relationship. Their love story spans exciting locations as they delve into each other’s worlds.
The central theme of The Idea of You is the socio-cultural commentary about aging and a woman’s worth as we witness Solène reclaim her sexuality and rediscover herself. Is ‘The Idea of You’ Based on Harry Styles Fanfiction?
Ever since the novel’s release, there has been heavy speculation that the character of Hayes Campbell is based on Harry Styles, often deeming the novel a fanfic. However, in an interview with Vogue, Robinne Lee stated that this narrative is, in fact, untrue. She goes on to explain that although a video of the ex-One Direction cast member sparked the initial idea of the novel, the book was never supposed to be about Styles. The Idea of You focuses more on the story of a middle-aged woman reclaiming her sexuality “…at the point that society traditionally writes them off.”
Although Styles may have served as her initial muse with hints of the male lead in a novel she had written previously. Lee described the character of Hayes Campbell as a well-balanced mix of her husband, Styles, Prince Harry, a couple of ex-boyfriends, and “a dash of Eddie Redmayne.” We also had Galitizine reveal in a recent interview that though Harry Styles did serve as some inspiration for the character, the idea was always to create someone new and original.
