Helen Shaver has been acting professionally for nearly 50 years, and she doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon. Multi-talented and hardworking, Helen is a master storyteller who has shown that she has the versatility to take on any role. Many will remember her best from the 90s TV series Poltergeist: The Legacy and the early 2000s show The Education of Max Bickford. Whether she is the star of the project or just making a minor appearance, Helen is the kind of actress who always brings her A game. 1. She Is Canadian

Helen has spent a good portion of her career working on American projects, so it’s easy for many people to assume that she is originally from the United States. However, Helen was born and raised in Canada (Ontario, to be exact). She comes from a large family, and she continues to cherish those relationships.

2. Helen Shaver Dealt With Health Issues as a Child

For some people, childhood is an idyllic time with no stress or worries. Unfortunately, though, that wasn’t the case for Helen. From an early age, Helen faced serious health problems resulting from chronic rheumatic fever. For several years of her young life, she had to spend six months out of every year in the hospital.

3. She Is a Proud Mom

Helen has never been the type of actress who likes to put all of her business on display. Because of that, most people probably don’t know much about her personal life, including the fact that she is a mother. Helen has one child (a son named MacKenzie) from her marriage to her first husband, Steve Smith. We weren’t able to find any information on MacKenzie.

4. She’s Has Experience Behind the Scenes

Acting is what most people think of when Helen comes to mind. However, that isn’t even close to being the only thing she’s contributed to the entertainment industry. Helen also has lots of experience from the other side of the camera. She has written, directed, and produced quite a few projects over the years. Directing seems to have become her main focus as of late.

5. She’s Done Voice Work

Almost all of Helen Shaver’s acting career has been spent doing live-action work, but she has also dipped her toe into the voice acting pond. In 1988, she was the voice of Littlefoot’s mother in the 1988 animated movie The Land Before Time. This remains her only voice acting credit.

6. She Has Almost 100 Acting Credits

The entertainment industry is a very tough business to make it in. Not only is it difficult for people to get a foot in the door, but it’s also difficult to find consistent work even after they’ve already landed some roles. For those reasons, Helen Shaver’s consistency and longevity are incredibly impressive. According to IMDB, she currently has 90 acting credits.

Directing isn’t the only time that Helen likes to step behind the camera. Helen also has an interest in photography, and she is a natural when it comes to taking beautiful photos. After spending so much time in the entertainment industry, some people may assume that Helen is obsessed with glitz and glamour. That isn’t the case at all, though. Helen seems to appreciate the simple things in life, and she loves being able to explore the outdoors whenever she gets the chance. She particularly loves spending time near the water.

Many people are scared to be vocal about certain subjects because they don’t want to ruffle anyone’s feathers. Helen isn’t that kind of person, however. Helen has made it a point to use her voice to speak up about the things that are important to her. One of the causes she supports is the Black Lives Matter Movement.
