You might be thinking just how Zombieland could get any better since the foursome that made the movie work in the first place have been through a lot and seem to be on the same page by the end of the first movie. But honestly if you think that they were going to live happily ever after in a zombie-infested wasteland then you were dreaming since the second installment is already promising that there’s going to be some trouble in the quasi-paradise that they found as a family unit, especially when it’s evident that there are going to be other survivors to deal with and the possibility of evolved zombies that will be on the way in the second installment. One hope that seems as though it might come true is that the movie will keep itself well removed from other zombie movies by keeping the light-hearted feeling that made the first movie so much fun, and will possibly see the core group stay together as much as possible.
It’s bound to be interesting since the relationship between Columbus and Wichita is probably far from perfect considering that Columbus still has a long list of hang-ups to get past despite his personal growth, and Little Rock has grown into a woman at this point and will no doubt be trying to become her own person, possibly without the group influence. Hopefully Tallahassee will remain the same since his character was one of the best in the first movie and the most complete despite his obsession for Twinkies and his obvious issues with people. All in all the movie ended on a good note, especially since they were together and on good terms. But hey, in Zombieland, anything can happen since there are always challenges on the horizon and in a world where most people you meet are zombies bent on tearing your liver out while eating you alive, things are going to happen. The only hope at this point is that the group has become tight enough that they know when to blow off steam and give each other some space and when to pull together in order to survive.
Grant Hermanns from ComingSoon.net has stated that we’ll be able to make our way to the theater this coming October when the movie is finally released, and you can bet that a lot of people will be filling the seats when that day comes. In truth the first movie was great but it took a few people to realize it since to be honest the zombie craze has kind of saturated the market in a big way. From the comics to the TV shows to the movies people have been all up on the zombie genre and it’s become such a huge part of pop culture that you can’t hardly look in any direction without seeing something that has to do with zombies in some way. Zombieland was thankfully a return to a story that was nothing short of chaotic and absolutely aggressive, giving the fans a movie that was more action and less sappy story despite the fact that it did have to dial up the sob story of each character after a while. Thankfully this didn’t detract too much from the movie and the over the top action sequences were great enough to instill a lot of hope for a sequel. Admit it, Tallahassee tooling around on the roller coaster while blasting zombies left and right was a perfect scene, as was his supposed last stand in the prize booth as the zombies were coming at him from every direction.
Even Columbus managed to become more of a complete character throughout the movie since in the beginning he was a nervy, jumpy individual that would skitter away like a frightened puppy at the first sight of danger. By the end he was taking out a zombie clown, a double threat for him, with a strong man mallet to the face. Up until their ill-fated trip to the amusement park, Wichita and Little Rock were less the damsels in distress than they were the strong and independent young women that they needed to be. The fact that they outsmarted the two men was rather funny to be honest since it goes to show that not every female in a movie needs protecting or rescuing, though it does happen on occasion and it can move a story along and create a level of development that might not have happened otherwise. In short, the balance of the first movie was nothing less than great, and it’s a big hope that the sequel is going to be just as good.
From the way it sounds the group might actually be a lot stronger than they were in the first movie, but hey, the challenges they continue to face might be too much after a while. In any case the wait to find out won’t be that long.
