On The Late Late Show, Ed Sheeran revealed that he was interested in writing the next song for the James Bond franchise. In fact, he is so interested in writing the next song for the James Bond franchise that he has finished writing it, though he refused to share so much as the name for the song because he was concerned that someone would steal it for their own use because in his opinion, it is just that good. Of course, there is no telling whether Sheeran’s song for the James Bond franchise is that good or not until it has been released to the public, but considering some of his previous works, it could prove interesting.
Will Ed Sheeran Be the Next Musician Chosen to Do a James Bond Song?
With that said, one shouldn’t expect to see Sheeran writing the next song for the James Bond franchise. After all, it was announced in August of 2017 that Beyonce was the one chosen to do the next song for the James Bond franchise. As a result, when the fifth movie starring Daniel Craig as James Bond comes out in late 2019, it will be whatever Beyonce comes up with that will be associated with it. It will be interesting to see how well the next song for the James Bond franchise connects with audiences considering the sheer amount of pressure created by the fact that Adele and Sam Smith won the Best Original Song Oscars in 2013 and 2016, but if there is someone who can claim the same Oscar in 2019 in spite of that pressure, Beyonce seems like an excellent candidate to do it.
However, just because Sheeran won’t be writing the next song for the James Bond franchise, that doesn’t mean that he won’t ever get the chance to do a song at some point in the future. After all, the James Bond franchise started up in 1963 with Dr. No and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, meaning that Sheeran will have plenty of chances to claim one of the coveted chances to write a new song for the James Bond franchise. Granted, he’ll face plenty of competition from other interested individuals, but that competition should make the whole selection process that much more interesting to speculate about in the times to come.
Why Is There So Much Interest in James Bond Songs?
On a final note, it should be mentioned that the interest in writing the next song for the James Bond franchise from Sheeran and others is an understandable one. After all, the James Bond franchise has been running for a long, long time, meaning that there are a lot of fans of the movies out there. Furthermore, while Adele and Sam Smith managed to win the franchise’s first Oscars for Best Original Song, its music was well-known well before the 2010s, not least because of the previous musicians who have contributed to the franchise. Some of those famous names include but are not limited to Paul McCartney, Shirley Bassey, and Duran Duran, making it no wonder that a significant number of musicians are so interested in following in their footsteps.
