If you don’t know who Kendall Vertes is then it’s likely that you don’t and never have watched Dance Moms. Some people love the show and think it’s great to see young girls being able to follow their passion and others think it’s kind of a controversial way to get girls into an activity that really sexualizes them at a young age. However a person looks at it Dance Moms was a show that served as a chance to gain notice for more than just Abby Lee’s larger than life personality. Kendall was a member of the show for a few seasons before she left in 2017. Since her departure she’s continued to act and even sing occasionally as she’s decided to keep on pushing her career and make something of herself. The whole idea of Dance Moms seems to lean towards being as critical and as judgmental as possible, but that’s one opinion.
Perhaps the biggest issue with the show is that like many reality shows it seems to draw upon the ire of the audience as they’re witness to some of the most troubling things about young girls dancing in front of people. Those that have no problem with it are typically those that feel they are enlightened and don’t look at kids as sexual beings in any way. That’s all well and good but looking at these young girls as a parent would look at another kid it still seems a bit much for young girls to perform in such a manner and then wonder why many of them grow up to be young women that don’t understand why men look at them like objects. Kendall was no different from any of the other girls really in this regard but pulling back from that rant for the time being let’s discuss just how her time on DM went and where she went from there.
As you can guess Abby Lee Miller was a big reason why some of these girls either rose or fell and unfortunately for all of them she was a dance instructor that had been around the art for a long time but had seemingly forgotten just where the passion was supposed to come from and thought only about lining her pockets. It was noted that Kendall didn’t start out as one of the best and had to fight for her place on the show, something that seems a bit dubious to start with to be quite honest. But as the seasons went on she improved, her flexibility and technique soared and she started performing in what could be called a very professional manner. But then she started to stabilize and then regress just slightly and by the time she was done with the show she seemed to be going in a different direction than Miller had been teaching her.
Since then she’s gone back to acting and at this point it’s hard to know just how it’s treating her since she’s only done a couple of projects. Kendall has had a career in show business for a while though starting only a year before she appeared on Dance Moms and taking her in different directions while she was part of the show. How anyone managed to put up with Miller for even a season when it was reported that she was absolutely horrible on and off camera was a mystery, but when things were kept so freakishly competitive it stands to reason that the girls bought into the act and wanted to be the best they could. Even horrible teachers somehow inspire their students to perform in ways that might otherwise seem foreign to them, doing whatever it takes to gain their approval.
Her time on the show wasn’t all that eventful but she did manage to learn a few things and has likely applied this in her life to this point. What those might be is anyone’s guess, but the lessons about dance could possibly be useful since life as a dancer might be tough but it’s still something worthwhile if one’s heart is in it just enough. Kendall has a couple of projects coming up it would seem that are bound to give her the chance to prove what she’s worth and it could be interesting to see what becomes of them, and her. The fact that she and the other girls put up with Miller for so many years is a testament to the fact that she’s tough enough to stick around and has likely endured one of the worst in the business when it comes to being bossed around. But hopefully she took more from that working relationship that she can use and won’t be disrupted by the negativity that was said to appear so often on the show. She could still have a very bright future, and it looks like she might be on her way.
