It’s hard to believe there was a time when movie critics had their own show. But if you want to look at the top critics of all-time look no further than Siskel and Ebert. Before the advent of sites like Rotten Tomatoes we used to rummage through newspapers to get the opinions of a select for critics in order to make our decisions on what movies to see. If you wanted to get the best of the best you’d usually tune in to watch these two guys.
If anything it was for the entertainment and watching them disagree. However, when the two would agree they were usually spot on. A key moment in the show’s history with regard to them correctly predicting and analyzing a film was when they rushed to the defense of Star Wars back in 1983 not to mention even saying at one point “Disney should be making films like this.” And wait until you see how bad this guy John Simon is. Wow.
