Tsurezure Children started out as a web manga. However, it has since received an anime adaptation, which in turn, has been licensed for release in the North American market by Funimation. Genre-wise, Tsurezure Children is best-described as romance aimed at a shounen audience. Here are 10 things that you may or may not have known about Tsurezure Children:
1. It Started Out as a 4-Koma
The Tsurezure Children web manga is an excellent example of a 4-koma series. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, 4-koma is a kind of format for comic strips that can be summed up as four panels of equal size. Some are top to bottom while others are left to right, which are on top of the ones that are 2 by 2.
2. It Started Out as a Web Manga
The Internet has produced new opportunities for a wide range of creators to make their works better-known to interested individuals. Manga artists are no exception to this rule, as shown by how Tsurezure Children started out as a web manga rather than a manga published through more traditional avenues.
3. Title Means Tedium Children
Those who are interested should know that Tsurezure Children can be translated to “Tedium Children.” In this case, the Tsurezure translates to “Tedium,” while the Children is actually spelled out as such using katakana, which is the phonetic writing used for non-Japanese words.
4. Aimed At a Shounen Audience
Tsurezure Children is aimed at a shounen audience. Generally speaking, this means teenage males between the ages of 12 and 18. However, the term is pretty loose, meaning that different definitions between different publishers have resulted in some variation within it.
5. No Main Characters
Unlike a lot of manga, Tsurezure Children has no central cast of characters. Instead, it is focused on a wide range of romantic stories between its characters, though it should be mentioned that these characters as well as their stories do have loose connections with one another.
6. Focused on the Difficulty of Saying “I Love You”
One of the things that unite the stories in Tsurezure Children is the focus on the difficulty of saying “I love you” to one another by the characters of the series. This is perhaps unsurprising seeing as how said characters are teenagers, meaning that their romantic relationships are pretty much exactly as awkward as what one would expect from people at that point in their lives.
7. The Manga Started Being Serialized
As started earlier, Tsurezure Children started out as a web manga in 2012. However, it wasn’t called Tsurezure at that point in time. In fact, it didn’t even have a name at that point in time but was instead referred to as the works of the manga artist Toshiya Wakabayashi. Eventually, the series started being serialized in Weekly Shounen Magazine in 2015, which came complete with new art.
8. The Manga Is Ongoing
Speaking of which, it should be mentioned that the manga is still being released, which will presumably continue to be the case so long as people continue to read it. Something that is particularly true because the nature of the series means that it doesn’t have anything even resembling a predefined ending. With that said, those who want the series in an easier to read format might have to look up the collected volumes of the manga. So far, 12 volumes have been released, but as the manga continues on, more are bound to be released in the future to come.
9. Anime Adaptation Done By Studio Gokumi
The anime adaptation of Tsurezure Children was done by Studio Gokumi. In short, Studio Gokumi means “Studio Five,” which can be attributed to the fact that it was founded by staff members of Studio Five at Gonzo. Due to this, while Studio Gokumi has done a wide range of anime belonging to a wide range of genres since its founding in 2010, it can also claim credit for Saki and Strike Witches to some extent because its founders were the ones responsible for those series. Tsurezure Children was one of its more recent series, seeing as how it came out in 2017. Since then, Studio Gokumi has continued working on other series, while more have been planned for the future.
10. Licensed By Funimation
The North American license for Tsurezure Children is held by Funimation. Besides that, Crunchyroll started streaming the series when it was released in Japan as well, though Crunchyroll being Crunchyroll, this means subs rather than dubs.
