Everything You Need to Know About ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Season 3

Cue “The Way I Loved You” by Taylor Swift because it’s finally time to return to Cousin’s Beach one last time — for the ultimate showdown between Team Jeremiah and Team Conrad! The Summer I Turned Pretty is back with a final season to wrap up all loose ends in Belly’s (Lola Tung) tumultuous journey of playing ping-pong with the Fisher brothers. The last season had viewers clutching their hearts when Belly and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) had their steamy neck-gripping kiss as Connie (Christopher Briney) watched like a sad puppy caught in the rain. So naturally, viewers are more than excited to witness if she sticks to her choice this time around or inevitably finds her way back to her first love.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a coming-of-age romantic series based on the Jenny Han novel trilogy of the same name. A series that took flight from the author of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, it’s no surprise that it has garnered massive popularity since the first season debuted on June 17, 2022. With the most relatable female lead, breathtaking boys, and deeper character arcs, to say that fans have been desperate to catch wind of the final season is a gross understatement. So, without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3.

What to Expect from the Plot of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3

Prime Video confirmed that the People’s Choice Awards 2024’s Bingeworthy Show of the Year was renewed for a season 3 on August 3, 2023. The new season will most likely be based on the final novel in the trilogy, We’ll Always Have Summer. As fans of the book are already aware, this season, Belly will once again be caught up in the love triangle between golden retriever Jeremiah and brooding heartthrob Conrad as she finally knows for certain where her heart lies. The book takes place two years after the events of the second book, It’s Not Summer Without You

Although the second season strayed away from the original as it introduced new subplots and characters, the final season is expected to follow Han’s third book in the trilogy closely. Viewers are also elated to be reacquainted with the fan-favorite duo of Steven (Sean Kaufman) and Taylor (Rain Spencer), who won endless squeals and hearts with their cuteness in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2. And not to get hopes up, but fans of the show are aching to see possible wedding bells for Belly in the upcoming season — regardless of whom she ends up with — as they know, the girl slays in white!

The Cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3: Who Is Returning, and Is Jenny Han Still Involved?

It wouldn’t be The Summer I Turned Pretty if the lead actors Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad), and Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah) didn’t return now, would it? In addition to the members of the love triangle that’s got viewers at the edge of their seats, Sean Kaufman (Steven), Rain Spencer (Taylor), and Jackie Chung (Laurel) will also be returning for the third and final season. Additionally, supporting characters Alfredo Narciso, Colin Ferguson, Tom Everett Scott, and David Iacono could make an appearance. Kyra Sedgwick as Aunt Julia and Elsie Fisher as Skye, the relatively new cast members who joined in season 2, could also return.

As viewers recall, Susannah Fisher died a heartbreaking death at the hands of cancer in the previous season. Hence, it’s unclear whether Rachel Blanchard, the actress who played her, will return in the upcoming installment in possible flashback scenes. The author of the novels, Jenny Han, is very much still closely involved with the beloved show and is putting her best foot forward to give fans a storyline and ending that leaves them thoroughly satisfied.

When is The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Set to Release?

The Summer I Turned Pretty was among the long list of shows that faced delays due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Although the series has been incredibly meticulous in delivering new seasons without an excruciatingly painful holdup, with seasons 1 and 2 dropping in the summers of 2022 and 2023, respectively, the new season will have to wait. As was confirmed in a video featuring the cast chilling together on the beach, Season 3  is set to drop in the summer of 2025. But that’s not all! The new season is set to consist of 11 episodes — three more than the previous installments — so it’s safe to say it’ll be worth the wait.

Unfortunately, there is no official trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 just yet, with fans disappointed that it was not included in Prime Video’s 2024 teaser trailer. But one mustn’t get too crestfallen as the show drops fun content on their official Instagram handle regularly with snippets from the cast members and the most adorable edits. As far as the trailer goes, viewers are anticipating yet another soul-hitter with a Taylor Swift song playing in the background following the pattern of the previous seasons, which had ‘This Love’ and ‘Back to December’ playing in seasons 1 and 2 trailers, respectively.
