Akon is, quite simply, a complicated and very difficult figure to believe in. It could be the rumor that he has so many children from so many different women, or the discrepancy about his jail time, not prison, but jail time, or even the ‘publicity stunt’ he performed when he tossed a fan off stage from his shoulders. It could also have something to do with the idea that he’s been rumored to say that he might take a run at the presidential election in 2020, but no matter what you want to say about the guy he simply sounds suspect a lot of the time. At least people enjoy his music it seems since he’s sold a large number of albums throughout the years and his music has been found in many different places throughout the years. The crowd is easy to appease when they don’t look at everything a person says too closely.
Here are some of his songs as they’ve appeared in movies and TV.
5. Live on Jimmy Kimmel – Right Now (Na Na Na)
With as much as he’s said to have done in his life and the apparent falsehoods and controversies he’s stirred up over time it’s kind of hard to believe that anyone would want Akon around, but then again he is a musical talent that has amassed a pretty big following, and there are a lot of those that would gladly come to his defense blindly. That’s amazing isn’t it? Just because someone loves the music they’ll stick up for a person that’s done little more than lie about their life at certain points. Well, it happens in just about every aspect of human life so it’s not too surprising to see it happen again and again in music.
4. Step Up 2: The Streets – Hypnotized
The Step Up movies have certainly gained their own crowd as some people truly love the films and have taken a shine to them when it comes to dancing and battling between groups. There’s a certain primal and very live feeling that comes just from watching people go through the movements since it’s something that calls to us in a very simple but powerful manner. The movements, the music, and everything put together is a jolt that keeps a person wanting to move even if they don’t know how. Then there’s the pride that comes with knowing that those dancing in the movie are doing so for the love of it.
3. The Comedy Awards – I Just Had Sex
A person has to do something or say something pretty bad to not be invited to a comedy show since comedy takes from just about anything and everything that society considers dark, wrong, or otherwise taboo and uses it to great extent. So really it’s not too surprising that Akon would be welcomed on a comedy show since this song is something amusing and is able to turn a lot of heads and widen a lot of eyes. That and the fact that Andy Samberg is on the stage with him is more than enough to get the crowd pumped and ready to just play along since it’s a show and people are there to be entertained.
2. Take the Lead – Never Gonna Get It
Take the Lead is the kind of movie you watch if you want to feel good about yourself once you’re done since quite honestly it takes a real life story and injects some of Hollywood’s own personal touch into to make the film something that’s enjoyable and dynamic all at one. A lot of people might not have heard about this movie but quite honestly it’s one that is recommended to anyone that loves to see dancing on a new level that’s not just classical or hip hop, but something in between that can satisfy just about anyone since it pulls elements from both and creates something that’s fun just to watch.
1. Lip Sync Battle – I Just Had Sex
Some of the people on this show really get into what they’re doing when they come onstage and get into character. Julianne Hough is one of those that definitely wanted to play it up and stick to the basics of the song as she crawled around on stage, making sure people got a good show and were able to watch her perform her heart out. This definitely isn’t a song you’d want to see on Lip Sync Battle Shorties, but here in the adult section it’s one of those that can make people laugh since the comedy of it is absolutely great and the hilarity of the performance is on purpose in order to gain a reaction.
You can think what you want about Akon and plenty of people do but one thing you can say is that he’s had a good run as a musician, no matter that the accounting of his past doesn’t quite add up all the time.
