The mere mention of Homelander sends shivers down the spine of anyone who’s watched The Boys. This seemingly perfect Supe with laser eyes and a winning smile is rotten to the core. Antony Starr absolutely crushes the role, making Homelander a villain for the ages — right up there with legends like Heath Ledger’s Joker and Anthony Hopkins’s Hannibal Lecter.
What truly makes Homelander so terrifying is his unpredictability. He’s like a powerful child with a hair-trigger temper. Think of Homelander as a narcissist with a god complex, with his twisted sense of entitlement fueling his most unforgivable acts. So, we’re going over five unhinged moments from The Boys that cemented Homelander’s place as one of TV’s most depraved villains.
1. Letting an Airplane Full of People Die
In Season 1, Episode 4, “The Female of the Species”, Homelander and Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) learn about a plane that’s been hijacked by terrorists. They arrive on the scene to try and save the innocent people on board. But in a fit of rage, Homelander accidentally lasers the pilot and ends up destroying the plane’s cockpit. As the plane goes into free fall, Homelander shows zero interest in saving the passengers.
Maeve pleads with him, trying to convince him to save at least two people. But he coldly says they can’t have witnesses. And since Maeve can’t fly, she has no choice but to leave with Homelander and abandon all the people on the plane. The way Homelander calmly rationalizes the need to let everyone die rather than attempting any form of rescue shows his complete lack of empathy. This was the first real act of monstrous neglect that set the tone for Homelander’s character moving forward, making it our undisputed #1 pick for his most depraved acts.
2. Forcing a Suicidal Girl to Jump to Her Death
In Season 3, Episode 2, “The Only Man in the Sky”, a girl was about to attempt suicide by jumping off a roof when Homelander arrived to convince her otherwise. However, he was completely unnerved about it. He tells her that if he catches her, they’ll praise him. If he doesn’t, it’s just another death by suicide and he’d have nothing to do with it. But just then, news breaks about his girlfriend, Stormfront’s (Aya Cash) suicide. This leads to Homelander going on a rant about how unfair it is for the girl to be saved while his love interest passes away. He then starts pressuring the girl (who’s now desperate to live) to jump. Homelander lights his eyes up, ready to blast her unless she kills herself. With no escape and a monster towering over, the poor girl has to take her own life.
This act stands out for its sheer cruelty. Unlike the plane incident, Homelander had nothing to gain or lose here. Her death wasn’t collateral damage; he simply made her jump to avenge Stormfront in his own, twisted way. What makes this moment even more disturbing is the fact that the girl was Jewish, so with her death, Homelander believed that he honored Stormfront’s legacy.
3. Bursting Blindspot’s Eardrums
In Season 2, Episode 1, “The Big Ride,” Ashley (Colby Minifie) is thrilled to have a new Supe inducted into The Seven to replace Translucent (Alex Hassell). Blindspot (Chris Mark) seems like the perfect demographic choice because he is visually impaired. He explains that he’s a gifted acrobat who fights crime using super-hearing and talks about how excited he is to meet Homelander.
Homelander, however, is less than impressed, particularly since he wasn’t part of the selection process. With a sickening smile on his face, he bashes Blindspot’s ears in to prove how useless he will be in a fight once he loses his hearing. What’s especially upsetting about this situation is that Blindspot simply found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. He’d been nothing but polite and enthusiastic. But because Homelander wanted to make a point, he crippled Blindspot and ruined his entire life. There’s also a high chance Blindspot died on the spot and it was covered up because later on, you see a Vought News video saying that Blindspot went missing on a secret mission.
4. Outing Queen Maeve on Live TV
Homelander’s depravity isn’t limited to physical violence. He relishes mentally and emotionally torturing anyone who might challenge his fragile ego. When he discovers that Maeve has a secret relationship, he casually outs her as a lesbian on live television to humiliate, discredit, and weaken her position within The Seven. What makes the situation worse is that Maeve is actually bisexual. So, Homelander ends up spreading misinformation about her sexual orientation. This act not only violated Maeve’s privacy but also posed a threat to her girlfriend, whom she had kept hidden until then. Following the revelation, Maeve’s standing in The Seven diminished to a mere PR stunt, and her relationship with her girlfriend crumbled under the weight of public scrutiny.
5. Sexually Assaulting Becca
Perhaps the darkest part of Homelander’s immorality is his complete disregard for human decency. In Season 1, it was revealed that Becca’s (Shantel VanSanten) reported death, the catalyst for much of the series’ conflict, never actually happened. The truth is far more sinister. Becca, who worked in Vought’s marketing department, was sexually assaulted by Homelander.
Her death was faked and she was forced to carry his child in secret, only to shield Homelander from the consequences of his crime. Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), their son, was raised in isolation, akin to living in a The Truman Show-like reality. To make matters worse, once Homelander learned about Ryan’s existence, Becca had to endure unannounced visits from her rapist in her own home. This act drives home the point that Homelander doesn’t just see humans as lesser beings; he sees them as toys for his amusement.
