There’s only one wrestler in the history of the WWE who could hold a candle to Roddy Piper when it came to utter degradation and pure snobbery, and that’s Ted Dibiase. The “Million Dollar” man was one of the most energetic villains that wrestling has ever seen. No character was as pompous and absolutely dehumanizing as Dibiase. There’s just no chance that a character like that could even be created in today’s political climate. Think about it. Virgil was his body guard and he was a black man who said maybe two words. Dibiase basically spit on the lower and middle class every single chance he got.
But when it came to the little 100 dollar “tasks” he would have people do on live television it got pretty bad. People were barking like dogs, bowing down to him and there was even a time he challenged a little African American kid to dribble a basketball x amount of times. What happened? Dibiase kicked the ball so he wouldn’t have to pay the money. I mean this was some nasty stuff.
Still though, looking back on his character, it sure was entertaining. Remember his theme song? If you don’t, here it is. Think the theme song for the show Louis and it’ll ring a bell. P.S. this will be in your head all day.
