When we last saw the crew from Cloud 9, they were looking at what was left of their store from the tornado. Superstore fans were also treated to a kiss between Amy and Jonah. When the comedy returns for its third season on September 28th, we will get to see what’s next for these two. America Ferrera is the woman behind Amy and is no stranger to the world of television. Here are five facts you may not know about the talented actress.
1. She is an Activist
When America Ferrera isn’t playing uptight Amy on Superstore, you can find her giving back. The actress is a recipient of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s Inspira Award and the Global Action Award. Ferrera raised $44,000 and was able to assist in the building of a school in Mali.
2. She is an Award-Winning Actress
America Ferrera has received numerous acting accolades over the course of her career. She won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe in 2007 for her portrayal of Betty on the ABC series Ugly Betty. She has also received an Image, ALMA, Satellite, and countless other Awards during her reign on the show. Ferrera has even won an award for her work on Superstore. She was the recipient of a Gracie Allen Award this year.
3. She was a Disney Channel Star
America Ferrera has been acting on television and movies for over 15 years. She got her big break starring in the Disney Channel original movie Gotta Kick It Up! The Superstore star played Yolanda a member of a high school dance team that is preparing to become champions with help from their new coach. Here she is showing off her dance moves:
4. She works behind the scenes, too
We love seeing America Ferrera in front of the camera on Superstore. However, this talented woman is also working behind the scenes of this hilarious show. Ferrera has been a producer on 15 episodes of the series and made her directorial debut earlier this year. Ferrera’s past producing credits include The Dry Land and X/Y.
5. Her Wedding was Memorable
You’re probably thinking most people’s weddings are memorable, but the Superstore star’s nuptials are memorable for another reason. America Ferrera married her longtime beau Ryan Pier Williams in 2011. Her wedding was officiated by actress Judith Light and took place at Vanessa Williams’ home. Both actresses worked with Ferrera on Ugly Betty. The music was so loud during the reception that the cops came twice and told the group they needed to quiet down or else the party would be shut down.
