Cast as the title character, Colin Farrell leads the Sugar cast, portraying a skilled and highly resourceful Private Detective. Sporting a black suit, John Sugar is one of the world’s best private investigators. Concerned over the prolonged disappearance of his granddaughter, Olivia Siegel (Sydney Chandler), legendary film producer Jonathan Siegel hires John Sugar to find her. Although the series begins in Tokyo, most of it takes place in Los Angeles.
Determined to find the missing girl, Sugar discovers a web of secrets and lies from her closest family members. With a medical secret of his own, John Sugar struggles to stay sane on the case and keep it hidden from the client. Although far from being his first work on television, Sugar is Colin Farrell’s first lead role on television. Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Ruby
English actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste also joins the Sugar cast in a supporting role as Ruby. The character is John Sugar’s colleague and handler. Besides providing information and ammunition, Ruby tries to keep Sugar emotionally grounded. Although she has credits on the big screen, Kirby Howell-Baptiste is mostly known for her work on television. In 2021, the actress starred as Anita “Tattletale” Darling in Cruella. Amy Ryan as Melanie Mackintosh
The Melanie Mackintosh character keeps things interesting for John Sugar and the audience. Being close to the family, Melanie knows many of the Siegel family’s secrets. Although Sugar doesn’t immediately realize it after their first encounter, Melanie is a great asset in helping unravel the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel. American actress Amy Ryan is cast as Melanie Mackintosh in the Sugar TV series. Amy Ryan is known for her extensive work on stage, film, and television. Dennis Boutsikaris as Bernie Siegel
Although Olivia Siegel’s grandfather is concerned about her disappearance, her father, Bernie Siegel, is indifferent. Besides his lack of urgency to find his missing daughter, John Sugar quickly becomes suspicious when he suddenly becomes defensive after questioning him about the photos of his late wife (Olivia’s mother). Known for his work as a character actor, Dennis Boutsikaris joins the Sugar cast as Bernie Siegel. With lots of credits in film and television, Boutsikaris’ most recent screen appearances include Judge Clemmens in The Equalizer (2022), Mr. Sharpe in Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game (2022), and Alan Albrecht in Mayfair Witches (2023).
Nate Corddry as David Siegel
David Siegel is introduced to Sugar audiences as the series’ first villain. The character is the stepbrother of the missing Olivia Siegel. When John Sugar goes to Olivia’s apartment, he encounters David Siegel and his bodyguard, Kenny (Alex Hernandez). David and Sugar are immediately distrusting each other’s motives. American actor and comedian Nate Corddry also joins the Sugar cast, portraying David Siegel. In television, Nate Corddry is known for his roles in United States of Tara (2009), Harry’s Law (2011–2012), Mom (2013–2015), and For All Mankind (2019–2022).
James Cromwell as Jonathan Siegel
Veteran actor and activist James Cromwell also joins the Sugar cast as Jonathan Siegel. His character is Olivia Siegel’s grandfather, who sets Sugar’s plot in motion after hiring him to find his grandfather. He’s a wealthy and powerful Hollywood film producer. With a career of over six decades, James Cromwell has raked in several notable credits in film and television. With a focus in television, some of Cromwell’s notable roles include Six Feet Under (2003–2005), 24 (2007), American Horror Story: Asylum (2012–2013), and Succession (2018–2023).
