The San Diego Comic Con is undoubtedly the biggest and most prized convention in the country when it comes to fans learning what happening with their favorite TV shows, movies, and franchises. It’s where the uber geeks, fanboys, and nerdboys and girls go to convene so that they might learn what they can in regards to their favorite aspects of the scifi and fantasy worlds they idolize so much. So why in the world wouldn’t Star Wars 8 and the cast of the Han Solo movie be a part of this momentous event? It boggles the mind that Lucasfilm would allow their biggest cash cows to miss this spectacular moment to showcase what is coming soon.
Here are a few reasons why you won’t be seeing the cast of Star Wars: Last of the Jedi, and the Han Solo movie at SDCC.
Lucasfilm will have a presence at SDCC, but the acting talent will not be a part of it.
The cast will not be participating as Lucasfilm doesn’t want to let go of any pertinent secrets that could tip fans off to what they might be able to expect. They will still feature a booth in the convention, but there will be no interviews or press meetings with the cast.
New trailers for Star Wars will be revealed.
Fans can at least be satisfied that they will get to see a new trailer for Star Wars 8 unveiled, as this will give them plenty to speculate about. After each convention it is fairly common to see those that attend go onto social media and various other platforms to write about and discuss certain theories and beliefs that continue to abound in the Star Wars mythos. While some of them might be a bit unfounded and even somewhere out of left field, they are at the very least entertaining and can create even more buzz for the film before its debut in the theaters this December.
There will be virtually nothing pertaining to the Han Solo movie.
This is reasonable considering that Ron Howard has just taken control of the film and has at least three to four months worth of material to go through. He is being forced to kick the production into hyperdrive in an effort to get everything done, and must complete nearly five weeks of reshoots before he is even close to being ready for the three weeks that will be required for principal photography. There is still a great deal to be done, and before Disney decides to give anything to the fans other than the title and a few approved production photos they will want to be sure that Howard is far enough along to give away just a little without giving a lot. This is after all one of the more influential characters in the Star Wars universe, and needs to be handled with care so that it fits with the expanded universe while still being allowed to remain its own story.
Lucasfilm is limiting itself at the SDCC for a very good reason, and it’s to keep the fans wanting more. If they gave too much then the mystique of the film and the franchise would not be as popular as it is now. Trust we must in the Force, and trust we must in Ron Howard.
