For the most part, Ratatouille ended on a good note. Offering just enough closure that fans didn’t need a sequel. But it also left room for more., and why not. Pixar and Disney both thrive on providing sequels, so it wouldn’t be out of the question to get one with Ratatouille.
Nevertheless, the chances of getting a Ratatouille 2 at this point seems quite bleak. However, this is not one of those situations where there’s no plausible reason why a sequel couldn’t happen. For the most part, the decision to create a sequel lies in the hands of the film’s director, Brad Bird.
To date, he hasn’t given any indication that there will be a Ratatouille 2 movie. Here’s the full gist of it.
Why The Ratatouille Movie Isn’t Getting A Sequel
It’s been over a decade since the soulful movie about a rat who dared to dream first hit the screens. Boy, did it hit with a bang! Not only did the movie make over $600 million at box office, but it also bagged an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
By all indications, Ratatouille was perfectly set up for a sequel. Audiences already loved it, and the storyline wasn’t tired. However, director Brad Bird had a thing to say about releasing a sequel to Ratatouille.
In his words, “… that story is told… No one apparently wants anything new anymore. I’m a little at odds with society on that. I would like to do some new things.”While no one, in particular, should hold their breath on that, the director has been known to drag his feet on sequels.
Audiences had to wait a whopping 14 years for The Incredibles 2 to happen. While the outlook was quite bleak on that one, it finally happened. So, while there hasn’t been a definite yes on that front, there’s still a chance that a few years down the line, inspiration will strike, and magic will be made.
Could The Movie Be Ruined By A Sequel?
With a tale as pleasant as the one told in Ratatouille, it’s easy to romanticize the storyline with the hopes that a sequel would add something fresh. But it’s worth considering that a sequel could ruin the good work that the original release put in place. The general consensus out there is that the story was tied up quite well.
Remy (voiced by Patton Oswalt) got more than his day in the sun, and Linguini (Lou Romano) got a pretty sweet deal too. So, it makes one wonder where exactly the storyline would take the characters. Perhaps, it is a good thing to let sleeping dogs lie. Also, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to immortalize Ratatouille as the near-perfect production it was.
