The Originals has always been a show about family, and it was very much all about the Mikaelson family in Season 2 of the CW vampire drama, with Esther, Mikael, Kol, and Finn returning, Freya being introduced, and the siblings’ Aunt Dahlia serving as the big bad. And while family will always be a major theme in The Originals, it will be explored in a little bit of a different way in the show’s upcoming third season, as the sired vampires of the originals (in many ways, the “children” of Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah) arrive in New Orleans to seek power and vengeance, something that may force Elijah and Klaus to put aside their differences again and fight together.
One ally that Klaus and Elijah will probably need to fend off any new major threats arriving in New Orleans is Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), who, as Davis told us when we spoke with him at San Diego Comic-Con last month, is back in the French Quarter and is closer to Klaus than he has been in a while at the start of Season 3. However, Davis previews that Marcel will still be trying to recruit new vampires into his ranks through a different type of method than before: a fight club. Could his continued recruitment of vampires means that Marcel still, on some level, wants to regain his position as King of New Orleans, and how will that complicate his already complex relationships with both Klaus and Davina? Davis discusses all of those topics and more.
Watch our full interview with Davis below, and be sure to check out our videos with Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, and The Originals executive producers Julie Plec and Michael Narducci, along with our other interviews with actors and writers from other major series, such as Supernatural, Agents Carter, and The Flash.
The Originals Season 3 premieres on the show’s new night, Thursday, Oct. 8, at 9 p.m. on The CW.
