Mindy Kaling Jokes About Stephen Colbert’s Mindy Project Guest Spot on The Late Show

Stephen Colbert

Mindy Kaling was a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night, and during Colbert’s interview with her, Kaling brought up the time that he was a guest on her show, The Mindy Project. As Colbert mentioned, it was during the break he had between The Colbert Report and The Late Show, and he was really grateful for the opportunity to appear on the Hulu (at that time FOX) sitcom. However, even though Kaling claimed she was “very fond” of Colbert, she still needed bring up the fact that he was “not very professional” when he guest starred on The Mindy Project.

“I was between gigs,” Colbert joked. “I was just footloose and fancy-free. I had a beard.”

In the Season 3 episode, Colbert played Father Michael O’Donnell, a priest at Danny’s (Chris Messina) parish, and one scene during the half hour required Colbert’s character eulogize another priest. As Kaling describes, it was supposed to be a more somber and somewhat serious scene, but Colbert couldn’t stop laughing during his lines. Kaling even played a clip to prove it.

However, according to Colbert, he wasn’t the only one being “not very professional” during that episode of The Mindy Project. He claimed that Kaling herself was a little unprofessional in one scene in particular, and he also brought a clip to show exactly what he meant.
