Kourtney and Kim Take New York Review

I have to admit, I had never really watched more than a single episode of any Kardashian reality show before watching Kourtney and Kim Take New York. I don’t have much of a desire to watch any reality TV, so I was a bit skeptical as to whether or not I would like the episode. I have to say, I didn’t hate it. In fact, it wasn’t as ridiculous as I thought it would be.

The set up is simple: Kourtney, her son Mason, and Kim all move temporarily to New York to open up a new branch of their DASH clothing store. Khloe remains behind while her two sisters head to the Big Apple to work. Kourtney’s boyfriend, Scott Disick, also joins the sisters in New York, but is living down the hall in a separate suite. Kourtney admits that her relationship with Scott (who is a very bad drunk) isn’t all that great, but their recent therapy sessions have improved things. Actually, Scott was my biggest surprise about this episode. He comes across as incredibly douchey in magazines. Something about his clothes and his smarm always rub me the wrong way. But….dare I say it….he seemed almost nice in the episode. Who knows if he’s acting, of course, but his happiness at being a part of Kourtney and Mason’s life again seemed genuine enough.

So Kourtney’s storyline throughout the premiere episode is rather tame. She’s just settling in to a new city with a ready-made family and isn’t all that eager to go out and party with her now-single sister.

Kim is kind of beyond ridiculous. She’s obviously not pleased by the fact that she’s single while her sister is playing house with her son and boyfriend. Yes, something like that would bother anyone, but one has to ask what Kim expected would happen now that Kourtney’s priorities have obviously changed with her new relationships. So Kim heads out to a club and crushes on a boy she knows from afar, while her friend tries to convince Kim to talk to him. But Kim is either too shy or way too conceited (I’m inclined to think it’s the later, since she says something akin to the fact that she doesn’t have to approach men – EVER – because they all just come to her). Eventually she manages to summon the courage to do something about her crush, but at that time I was just thinking ‘ugh, finally’.

All in all, the first episode of this new season is fairly tame. It’s more of a set-up than anything else. But what was really interesting were the previous for upcoming episodes. Things are about to go down, ladies and gentlemen. Scott is most definitely going to go back to his old ways, mama Kris gets involved, and there’s some big time drama at a club. It’s like watching a train wreck, you just can’t look away. Kardashian fans will definitely want to tune into this new season if this craziness is in store for the upcoming weeks. Below is a promo for the show, showing a new of the explosive scenes I mentioned.
