Johnny Depp Brings out Jack Sparrow for Children’s Hospital Visit

Whether we ever see Captain Jack Sparrow in another Pirates movie again is up in the air right now but a few very lucky patients in the Queensland Children’s Hospital got to speak with him when Johnny Depp decided to dress up as the iconic captain and reach out to the kids to chat for a while. One can only imagine just how much of a treat this was as they had the chance to converse with none other than one of the most infamous pirates of all time, in the movies at least, as he stayed in character throughout most of the visit. While he did revert back to himself for a bit he apparently gave the kids a very pleasing experience as he spoke to them in his customary accent and made them laugh the way only Depp can. There are a lot of things that people have said about Johnny Depp lately and one of them is that he’s fairly strange, and thank goodness for that since otherwise Captain Jack might not have become the character he’s been for so long. Creating such a massively popular character has done wonders for Depp’s reputation as Jack became one of his most well-liked and respected characters despite his obvious lack of morals and his questionable ethics. Truth to tell he’s just a fun character that has a heart of gold that he might sell for a jug of rum if he had the inclination to do so. Hey, it’s Jack we’re talking about after all.

The troubling thing right now about Jack Sparrow is that he might not be showing up in either of the new Pirates movies that are coming out as it does sound as though the movie with Margot Robbie at the helm is going to be a largely female cast, which brings back memories of the quasi-western movie Bad Girls, but on the high seas instead of the old west. If you don’t recall the movie don’t fret too much about it, but the idea of bringing in anyone to take over a Pirates of the Caribbean movie is kind of hard for a lot of fans to get behind since Jack Sparrow has been the man since the beginning. Of course it does need to be mentioned that the movies have felt as though they were slipping in the past couple of installments, as On Stranger Tides and Dead Men Tell No Tales were kind of ‘meh’ when it came to content. The real kicker though was during the last movie when all curses at sea were broken when the Trident was broken. That kind of leaves one thinking ‘what’s the point anymore?’. One of the biggest reasons to watch the Pirates movies was the idea of the curses that were laid down upon so many people and how they affected the story. From the curse of the Aztec gold to the curse laid upon Davy Jones that was obviously lifted once the Trident was shattered, every last reason for the show to go on was almost negated. But maybe having a female cast will bring about a different perspective on things. Margot Robbie after all is a pretty good actress, though it’s also fair to say that she hasn’t exhibited the same mania as Depp when he gets into character.

Robbie’s whole crazy scheme has been locked up in the character of Harley Quinn, who would be seen as a madwoman and likely burned at the stake or imprisoned back in Jack Sparrow’s time. So the obvious idea here is that she’ll be playing someone that’s perhaps a little unhinged in a way but is more or less sound of body and mind. We’ll have to wait and see obviously since there’s not enough to go on at the moment, but it should be interesting all the same. In the meantime there’s really no idea if we’ll get to see Depp in the costume again, but if he’s willing and finds those that are wanting to see Captain Jack show up more than once it’s likely he’ll play the part when requested and that he’ll give a lot of fan a nice treat when it happens. This is after all the kind of guy he’s turned out to be with a lot of folks, someone that’s willing to cheer up another person and give them a good show as one of the most popular characters to emerge in the last couple of decades as he’s managed to keep the character interesting and altogether fun. It’d be a shame if we don’t get to see him on the big screen any longer, but at the very least he’s helped to make a lot of a good memories and has brightened quite a few days in the process.
