Hannibal Season 4 Needs to Happen: Here’s Why

Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter

Hannibal ran for three seasons with 13 episodes per season on NBC from April 4 of 2013 to August 29 of 2015. During that time, it received a fair amount of praise from critics, who focused their attention on the excellent acting of its stars as well as the particular style of the TV show. Unfortunately, while Hannibal did secure a solid base of fans, it failed to reach out to a wider base of viewers, with the result that NBC cancelled the TV show not long after the start of Season 3.

Can There Be a Hannibal Season 4?

With that said, it is important to note that there has been strong interest in a Season 4 of Hannibal ever since NBC cancelled the TV show. Unfortunately, the earlier discussions failed to produce fruitful results for a couple of reasons. First, none of the companies approached by the show-makers were willing to do what it took to acquire the streaming rights to the TV show, which were still owned by Amazon. Second, Amazon was interested in a Season 4 of Hannibal, but wanted production to start as soon as possible, which was in stark contrast to the show-makers’ intentions, seeing as how they wanted more time to perfect the script before getting started. As a result, Hannibal has languished for some time.

However, fans of the TV show will be pleased to learn that there is reason to believe that Hannibal will be returning for a fourth season at some time in the not so distant future. First, the streaming rights will be reverting to Martha De Laurentiis, meaning that the single biggest obstacle will be out of the way. Second, the developer, Bryan Fuller, has stated that important members of both the cast and the crew are on board with the hypothetical project, with examples ranging from Martha De Laurentiis to Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen, who play FBI special investigator Will Graham and the titular Dr. Hannibal Lector. As a result, while all of these people are involved with other projects at the moment, it seems no more than a matter of time before their schedules align so that production can commence on Season 4 of Hannibal.

Should There Be a Hannibal Season 4?

Some people might be wondering whether there should be a Season 4 of Hannibal when it was cancelled the first time. However, it should be mentioned that Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter had one of the most uncomfortable but nonetheless compelling relationships on the TV screen, which made for excellent viewing. Furthermore, the TV show boasted tight writing, skilled filming, and exceptional vision, which came together to provide it with a peculiar appeal like nothing else on the TV screen.

All of which is supported by the awards and accolades that it received over the course of its run, with an excellent example being the slew of Saturn Awards for the TV show as well as its cast members. As a result, Hannibal Season 4 needs to happen, particularly since Bryan Fuller sounds confident that he has a solid idea for the TV show that is bound to impress the viewers out there.
