The actress was born Gabrielle Mary Antonia Hoffmann in New York City on January 8, 1982. Hoffmann’s mother is former Warhol superstar and actress Viva. Her father is the late American actor Anthony Herrera, who was briefly engaged to Hoffmann’s mother. Her father was famous for originating and playing the James Stenbeck character on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns. Before Gaby Hoffmann was born, her father was estranged from her mother. As such, Hoffmann was raised alone by her mother.
She Was Raised At The Prestigious Chelsea Hotel
With her father not having an active presence in her life, Gaby Hoffmann was raised by her mother. Her mother had been married to director Michel Auder and had a child, Alexandra “Alex” Auder, from the marriage. Alex is Gaby Hoffmann’s older half-sister. Hoffmann, her mother, and older sister lived at the Chelsea Hotel until she was 12. Then, they were evicted to a housing court after failing to pay rent for two years.
