The Librarians is an American fantasy-adventure series that is being broadcast on TNT at the moment. It is a TV-based spinoff of the film franchise of the same name, which is a series of made-for-TV movies with which it shares a continuity. Like the name of the franchise suggests, The Librarians is centered around an organization of the same name, which is focused on fighting supernatural threats as well as protecting various artifacts of a magical nature.
Here are five things that you may or may not have known about The Librarians:
The Librarians Have Existed Since the Library of Alexandria
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Librarians are an ancient organization. In fact, it was founded at a time when the Library of Alexandria was still in existence, though to be fair, that covers a fair amount of time. After all, Ptolemy I of Egypt founded the institution during his reign from 305 to 282 BC, while no one is sure when the institution met its final destruction, which could have been as late as the 7th century AD.
Eclectic Collection of Antagonists
The Librarians feature a rather eclectic collection of antagonists. For example, the second season featured Prospero and Professor Moriarty, who should be familiar with those who have read the works of William Shakespeare and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Furthermore, the third season featured Apep, a huge, sun-swallowing serpent who was a cosmic antagonist in ancient Egyptian mythology.
Some Characters from Arthuriana
Speaking of which, considering some of the more eclectic characters, it is perhaps unsurprising that The Librarians features characters from Arthuriana as well. With that said, their true identities are something of a surprise for the viewers. However, anyone who pays close attention to the names of the characters should be able to figure out at least one of the secret identities, seeing as how the name that the character uses isn’t that far from their real name.
Tie-In Novel
Besides the made-for-TV movies, The Librarians has a tie-in novel as well, which is called The Librarians and the Lost Lamp. It is focused on the characters from the series hunting for Aladdin’s lamp, which is one of the numerous magical artifacts that come up over the course of the franchise. For those who are curious, The Librarians and the Lost Lamp was written by Greg Cox and published by Tor Books, meaning that people who love the series have one more option with which to satisfy their fascination.
In Its Fourth Season
Currently, The Librarians is in its fourth season, which started up on December 13 and is expected to continue running until February 7. It is interesting to note that this latest season will have 12 episodes as opposed to the 10 episodes of the previous three seasons. As a result, this should come as welcome news to people who have watched The Librarians with fondness, seeing as how they will have more material to look forward than what they might have expected based on their previous expectations.
