It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Colbie Caillat, but it doesn’t mean that we’ve forgotten the singing beauty. Caillat is known for hits such as Bubbly, Try, and her most famous duet with Jason Mraz, Lucky. Her voice is one of the most unique voices of our generation, soft yet unforgettable, and she’s known for bringing along her guitar no matter where she goes. We’ve seen her barefoot while performing on stage a few times, and honestly, we don’t mind. There are just so many quirky things about Caillat that makes us want to get to know her and her music more. Here are five things you probably didn’t know about Colbie Caillat.
Idol reject
As harsh as that may sound, it actually worked just the way it was supposed to be for Caillat. She auditioned for American Idol twice but didn’t even make it past the pre-audition stage both times. It’s okay with us because we can only imagine Simon crushing her spirit if she ever did get to sing for the judges then. Instead, she went on to find her own way in the music industry and has never turned back since.
Sister Act inspiration
Music has always been a part of Caillat’s life even as a kid. She did the usual–piano lessons and maybe more. But what really inspired Caillat to pursue music was Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2. We totally get it because we wanted to be singers too after that film, but Caillat happened to have the God-given talents to actually pursue it.
Family Grammys
Caillat has several Grammy Awards under her belt, five to be exact, some from her personal work and others from collaborations. She also has another nine nominations to add to those wins. It isn’t a surprise, then, to find out that she comes from a family of Grammy winners. Her father, Ken Caillat, also happens to be one. Ken Caillat is a music producer who also has some great hits under his name. One of his biggest accomplishments was working on Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, for which he won his Grammy. Some of his most notable collaborators include Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, the London Symphony Orchestra, and of course, his daughter Colbie.
Animal advocate
It’s long known that Caillat doesn’t eat any red meat of sorts, and we’ve all seen her in the ASPCA commercials. She actually became a spokesperson for the organization in 2014, but that’s not all. Caillat is also a spokesperson for a few other animal and nature organizations and foundations including The Humane Society of the United States, Surfrider Foundation, Save the Music, and Farm Sanctuary.
Water lover
Caillat loves being in the water. We can only surmise that she gets her lovely tan from being out in the beach too much. The truth is she loves watersports of any kind. In high school, she was part of the swim team and water polo team as well. We also know that she happens to love the beach and everything about it.
