Five College Coaches We’d Like to See Movie Biopics On

Honestly when you see a biopic on a college coach you tend to see something that focuses on a lot of negatives with enough positives thrown in to make it worth watching. The men listed below would no doubt have something thrown into their story to give them enough spice for an audience to focus on but their coaching styles and history with the game should be enough. If nothing else each one of them would make for an inspiring story that could possibly be made into a Lifetime biopic or something equally as meaningful.

It’d be worth watching really.

5. Avery Johnson-Alabama

Johnson would be an interesting story just because he’s been to the show and he’s seen what it takes to win. Being on the other side of the ball after sixteen years of being a player had to be kind of an adjustment but it seems that he’s taken it in stride since he coached two NBA teams before coming to Alabama where he’s currently taken his team to the finals for the first time since 2012.

4. Tony Bennett-Virginia

His time as a player taught him a great deal since he didn’t just play in the US but went on to play in other countries as well. Bennett even got to suit up for Team USA in the Pan American Games in 1991. He’s been described as a master of defensive play and has managed to each his players how to operate unselfishly on the court and to squeeze the offense until they give up the ball. He’d make for an interesting story since he’s also one of the only non-corrupt coaches at his level.

3. Shaka Smart-University of Texas

Although Shaka was a player in college he never made his way to the NBA, though he did come up with a unique style of play called havoc. What it is essentially is a full court press that continually pressures the opposing team and throws off their timing to such a degree that they have to change their game. The style of play continues however, continually forcing the other team to change up their style as Shaka’s team continues to press.

2. John Calipari-University of Kentucky

While he has never been in the NBA Calipari was in fact a player during his college days and after this became known as one of the most prominent coaches around. He did coach for the NBA, doing a stint with the New Jersey Nets before moving on in 1999 to being an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76er’s. After that he went back to college ball where he’s been quite successful ever since.

1. Mike Krzyzewksi-Duke University

Krzyzewski would be a guy that needs a movie largely because he’s been offered a the chance to coach for the NBA no less than five times and he’s turned them all down in order to keep coaching for the current college he’s with, Duke. That’s the kind of dedication to a team that’s inspiring to many no matter how it might look to some people. That alone would make for a great movie.

Any one of these men would make a great story.
