People who remember Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane with fondness should know that the third installment in the Cloverfield franchise is expected to come out on February 2 of 2018. This can come as a surprise seeing as how there has been so little marketing for the movie, but the filming for the movie has been finished since September 23 of 2016. However, while not much information has been revealed about the upcoming movie, which may or may not still be called God Particle, that is not the same as saying that no information has been revealed at all.
What Do We Know About Cloverfield 3?
First, we know that the third installment in the Cloverfield franchise will be taking place in space. To be exact, it will focus on a team of astronauts on an international space station, who have been tasked with conducting a science experiment using a particle accelerator. Unfortunately, when they carry out the science experiment, what results is the disappearance of the Earth as well as other unpleasant discoveries when a space shuttle appears. In other words, what we know about the content of the movie is not much more than the marketing blurb, though it can be said that is still better than nothing at all.
Second, a fair amount of information is known about who were involved in the making of Cloverfield. For example, the movie was directed by Julius Onah, a Nigerian-American director who is a relative newcomer to making feature films. Meanwhile, the script for the movie was written by Oren Uziel and Doug Jung, while its cast members include but are not limited to Daniel Bruhl, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, and Zhang Ziyi. Finally, J.J. Abrams served as its producer, which makes sense seeing as how he has served in the same role for the previous two movies as the person who came up with the Cloverfield franchise in the first place.
Third, it is unknown why there is so little marketing for the third installment in the Cloverfield franchise at the moment, but it is possible to speculate. For example, it is possible that the people behind the franchise have decided to go low-key, which sounds improbable but is nonetheless possible because the Cloverfield franchise has always been rather odd in this regard. However, it is also possible that the third installment in the Cloverfield franchise has just run into serious problems, which would be supported by the fact that February is not the movie’s initial release date but rather the one that resulted from it getting pushed back for three months.
Further Considerations
At this point in time, there is no real way of knowing what is really happening with the third installment in the Cloverfield franchise, not when even the name of the movie remains unconfirmed at this particular point in time. Still, seeing as how the release date is coming up so soon, it seems probable that something will be announced sooner rather than later. Even if that something happens to be an announcement that the movie will be delayed a second time, which seems far from impossible considering the lack of even a trailer.
