Cars was a huge success despite ripping the plot straight from Doc Hollywood. It was a fun film and kids definitely loved it, though probably not as much as they loved all the McQueen merchandise and swag. But if there’s one thing fans agreed on, it was that Cars 2 was pretty lackluster. Perhaps that’s why it’s taken so long to get a Cars 3 into production.
If you actually go back in the pantheon of Pixar films Cars 2 is a strong contender for most folks’ least favorite Pixar film. Despite the ton of money the studio made off of it, there’s still a healthy heap of goodwill to be restored when the franchise’s third installment rolls into theaters in June. Fortunately, the film’s latest trailer gives the impression that a lot more thought went into this one than “Let’s make Mater a secret agent!”
And correct me if I’m wrong, but does this trailer almost give off blockbuster action movie? I mean the music pumps you up. It’s almost “serious” and I’m getting a very “Tron” vibe from the cars. I can’t tell if this is going to be a movie for kids or for adults. One thing is for certain. It looks like Pixar is definitely trying to make up for the mistake that was Cars 2.
It’s promising so far. Check out the trailer below:
