‘Bridgerton’ Officially in Production for Season 4

Netflix’s popular historical romance series Bridgerton is officially in production for Season 4 with Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha as the new leads. After Bridgerton Season 3 concluded with Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), it was soon announced that Benedict Bridgerton would be the leading man of Bridgerton Season 4. The upcoming season will be based on the third book in the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn, titled An Offer From a Gentleman

Shondaland announced the news in an Instagram post featuring Thompson and Ha from the set of the show. Ha is set to take on the role of Sophie Baek, who meets Benedict at his mother’s masquerade ball. Bridgerton Season 4 is being filmed in London on one of the newly constructed backlots of Shepperton Studios. Bridgerton Season 4 is adding three new cast members including Katie Leung, Michelle Mao, and Isabella Wei to its lineup. Leung is set to play the role of Lady Araminta Gun, Sophie’s stepmother. According to an official description released by Netflix, Araminta will have two daughters Rosamund (Michelle Mao) and Posy Li (Isabella Wei) debuting on the marriage mart. However, Sophie’s very existence will prove to be a hurdle for Araminta’s standing in society.

While Posy is the quieter sister, Rosamund is described as “beautiful, vain, and eager to please her mother.” Rosamund will have her sights set on Benedict this season. But little does she know that his heart already belongs to her step-sister. In an interview with Shondaland, Thompson described the upcoming season as a “really nice mix of fairy tale and reality.” Ha added that the fans can expect an emotional tug-of-war between what the heart desires and what society desires.

The leading couple also talked about their respective characters’ arcs, with Thompson describing Benedict’s journey and growth as a roller coaster of emotions. Ha, on the other hand, expressed her excitement to be joining the successful show and talked about how welcoming everyone has been to her. “I just never saw myself wearing maid’s clothes or any clothes in the Regency period; I just never saw myself in those dramas. So, even just trying them on is something so new and fresh and refreshing,” added Ha while talking about the importance of representing her Asian heritage on the show.
