While La La Land ruled the Academy Award nominees with a record tying 14, movies Moonlight and Arrival came in 2nd each with eight nominations. Arrival is a film that’s been highly praised by critics and most fans consider it to be the movie of the year, deserving best picture honors (even though there’s no way La La Land loses). But perhaps one of the biggest stories of this year’s Oscars is the fact that lead actress from Arrival, Amy Adams, got snubbed as best actress. Among the eight nominations the movie got, major ones included Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. It’s hard to believe something with those nominations wouldn’t include acting.
Director Denis Villaneuve said of Adams: I’m deeply disappointed for Amy. She was the soul of this movie. For me, it was a given! She had the movie on her shoulders, she’s the one who made it happen. It’s a strange feeling to celebrate and feel sad at the same time.
Whether this is in response to the Oscar snub or not, Paramount will be re-releasing the film for a limited time in theaters. While this is common among best picture nominees you can’t help wonder if it’s in direct response to Adams not getting nominated. This particular release will feature an additional 8 minutes of unseen footage as well as commentary. Speaking of commentary, the Blu-Ray for the film is set to be released on February 14th. The movie will return to theaters this Friday, January 31st. Here’s the the theatrical trailer.
