Puerto Rican actress Adria Arjona has starred in several big-budget movies in the last decade. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Arjona was raised in Mexico City until age 12. Adria Arjona played one of the lead characters in the action psychological horror movie The Belko Experiment. The Belko Experiment centered around the employees of Belko Industries, a company based in Bogotá, Colombia.
All of the company’s 80 staff members are Americans, with a chip implanted in their heads to supposedly keep track of them. One day, they are all locked in and ordered to kill each other in what is termed the “Belko Experiment.” The Bello Experiment received mixed reviews from critics and audiences but was a commercial success. It earned $11.1 million on a $5 million budget.
Pacific Rim Uprising
Adria Arjona joined the cast of Pacific Rim Uprising in a supporting role as Jules Reyes, a mechanic/officer of the PPDC (Pan Pacific Defense Corps). Pacific Rim Uprising, a sequel to the Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba-led 2013 Pacific Rim, was set 10 years after the events of the first movie. Although it grossed $290.9 million, it was a box-office disappointment, considering it had a $150–176 million production budget. A must-watch Adria Arjona movie has to be Michael Bay’s 2019 vigilante action comedy movie 6 Underground. Cast as Five/Amelia (The Doctor), Adria Arjona is one of the six team members of an anonymous vigilante squad created to take down criminals and terrorists. Arjona starred alongside Ryan Reynolds, Mélanie Laurent, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Ben Hardy, and Dave Franco. Although critical reviews were mixed, as a Netflix original movie, 6 Underground was watched for 205.47 million hours in the first 28 days of release.
Morbius
Adria Arjona portrayed Marvel Comics’ fictional character Martine Bancroft in the 2022 superhero movie Morbius. In the movie, she plays Dr. Bancroft, a scientist and colleague of Dr. Michael Morbius (Jared Leto). Morbius was a critical and commercial failure despite earning $167.5 million on a $75–83 million budget. Although it is one of Adria Arjona’s least reviewed movies, it’s one of those where she had a longer screen time as a lead actress. The movie received five Golden Raspberry Awards, with Jared Leto and Adria Arjona receiving nominations for Worst Actor and Actress, which they won.
Father of the Bride
Adria Arjona played the bride, Sofia Herrera, in the 2022 reimagined movie Father of the Bride. Unlike the original, the bride’s family is Cuban-American, with the daughter looking to marry an American lawyer who works at a non-profit in Mexico. Andy García and Gloria Estefan play the patriarch and matriarch of the Herrera family. Although several audiences complained it wasn’t a worthy reimagining of the previous films, Father of the Bride was a critical success, holding an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie had no theatrical release but was instead released on HBO Max.
The Absence of Eden
Adria Arjona appeared in two feature films in 2023. The Absence of Eden was her first movie of the year before Hit Man. The Absence of Eden starred Zoe Saldaña in the lead role with only a few main cast. Arjona was cast in a supporting role as Yadira.
