Willow’s Disney+ Debut: A Nostalgic Trip with a Dash of Uncertainty

After a long wait, Willow has finally arrived on Disney+, and it’s hard not to feel a mix of underwhelmed and impressed. The show brings back a beloved childhood favorite, and while it retains much of the original’s charm, the forced dialogue and story progression can be cringe-worthy at times. One significant change is the absence of Madmartigan, a main character from the original movie, whose absence is felt throughout the kingdom.

Magic: Outlawed but Essential for the Kingdom’s Safety

Despite magic being outlawed, it remains a crucial element in protecting the kingdom of Tir Asleen. The Barrier, created by magic, safeguards the kingdom, and the legend of Elora Danan, who disappeared years ago, is about to become a significant part of life in Tir Asleen. The story unfolds with Kit, Sorsha’s daughter, being married off to a stranger, while her friend and love interest, Jade, is off to become a knight. Kit’s brother, Airk, is a womanizer who believes he’s the second-best swordsman in the land.

Sorsha’s Offspring: Privileged and Spoiled

Kit and Airk, born into privilege, come across as spoiled royals who do as they please without consequences. However, they’re not entirely terrible, and there’s hope that they might improve as the story progresses. After Airk’s abduction by the fearsome Gales, Kit remains stubborn and unwilling to listen to anyone else’s opinions.

A Powerful Evil Has Returned in 'The Gales' - The Good Men Project

Bavmorda’s Spirit Lingers On

The revelation that Bavmorda’s spirit has somehow survived within Sorsha and the twins is unsettling. The real threat seems to be her spirit actively hunting, or using the Gales to hunt, Elora Danan. The Gales, powerful and skilled in battle, pose a significant challenge for the adventurers tasked with stopping them. The show’s pacing feels a bit too fast, with large chunks of exposition that could potentially harm the overall story.

An Uncertain Adventure Ahead

As it stands, Willow seems to be moving at a breakneck pace, with the potential for a massive battle between the Crone and Willow’s allies by the end of the first season. There’s no word on whether the show will extend into another season, but it hasn’t been billed as a limited series, so there’s still hope if it performs well.
