The Five Best Tesla Songs of All-Time

One thing that Tesla never wanted to be known as was a glam metal band, as this wasn’t what they were and the group didn’t feel it described them in a useful way. They’re still active to this day and still pumping out the kind of songs that fans from back in the day happen to love, but one thing that you might be able to guess about Tesla is that like so many others their popularity, while still great enough to keep them relevant, is not what it used to be. Back in their day they were known to tour with some of the biggest names in rock, but nowadays the competition is so fierce and the market is so saturated that claiming the top spot is no longer a matter of who rocks hardest or has the most fans. It’s a matter of who can sell the most albums and keep the longest and most popular sound that people want to hear over and over. Tesla still has an impressive fan base, and thankfully there are more than a few people that would readily agree that they can still rock the house.

Here are a few of their best songs.

5. Song and Emotion

The sound that Tesla brought back in this day and still brings is something that people still enjoy since it’s raw, it’s unfettered, and like a lot of music it told a story that people wanted to hear and in some cases could relate to. Good music such as this is the kind of thing that people will gladly sit and listen to and pay for simply because it’s something they believe in. The one thing about any music is that no matter what genre it is or how much it speaks to the audience, it’s an expression of the world we live in that people from all walks of life eventually tend to find is talking to them in some way that resonates on a level that’s hard to explain but is easy to understand.

4. What You Give

One amusing thing about Tesla is how they came about their name. Originally their band was called City Kidd, which isn’t quite as catchy and doesn’t seem to roll off the tongue quite as easily. But be that as it may it was suggested that they change their name for a couple of reasons. One is that another band already had the name so it wouldn’t have gone over too well to try and get famous using someone else’s name. The other was that it just didn’t work for them. So they came up with Tesla based on what you might have guessed, the famed inventor Nikola Tesla. Some names are simple to come up with, while others kind of make you wonder where they came from.

3. Little Suzi

One nice thing about Tesla that’s always been appreciated with many bands is that as hard as they can rock they can go softer too and keep it low-key for a song either in part or the whole way through. This is an important quality for any band and their success to be honest since going hard is great and it gains a lot of fans, but only be hard and not managing to do anything that can accommodate those that want to hear something else is a kind of tunnel vision that might cause a band to miss out on all the fans they might be able to draw in if they change up their sound just enough to make it more palatable for others. It’s not necessary to change one’s ideals really, but learning to play for more than one listener is usually wise.

2. Modern Day Cowboy

Tesla was definitely a few steps away from being a glam band but they were different enough that they didn’t really deserve the distinction, especially since they didn’t care for it. In truth they looked like a a bunch of guys jamming in regular clothing, no makeup, and with mildly big hair that still didn’t look like it had taken on a can of hair spray and lost the fight. In essence they were only ever given this label because of who they toured with. They worked hard to escape that label throughout their career and it can be said with all honesty that they likely have escaped it by now.

1. Love Song

This is one of the songs that helped them to elevate their career in a way that they wanted, and it’s even been heard in a few TV shows and movies throughout the years. While a lot of people might ask you who Tesla is, the truth is that a lot still remember from their youth. While some might not listen to them any longer others likely still find themselves smiling if they ever hear mention of their songs now and again.

Everyone had their favorites back in the day.
